Difference between blogs and forum posting

Hello,

If I am making a presence on forums directly related to my trades of electrical and hvac, does the signature link carry more (or better) "juice" back to my website? I know having my very own blog is important, so is guest-blogging too. But forums seem to allow me better amount of replies on topics including ones I didn't even start.

I have had membership for over a year and have dozens if not hundreds on three big electrical and construction related forums. I just have to add my sigs and continue posting and replying.

I also figure I can join in established blogs of low voltage electrical (alarms), home automation, solar, home generators, and even pop in on a few DIY sections of various forums. Would this somewhat count like a Q&A of Yahoo but much lower powered as well?

I am trying to make the best use of my limited time for a better return with the SEO, so that is why I ask.

Forum signatures links dont carry any seo value becuase most of them are nofollow. But it help you to get new customers for sure.

Oh well, some of the forums allow you to have a blog on the forum site, so I guess I should use that then too?

If those forums are active forums, I would say that those forum links would be valuable even though they would probably be nofollow. You would have a good chance of generating relevant traffic to your site from those links. When it comes down to it, I would rather have nofollow links that drive traffic and sales to my site over a follow link from a blog comment or something that almost no one would ever click on.

The links will surely gain you more visitors, even more if you say you plan to post in so many forums. As for the SEO aspect, it is not necessarily covered by posting in such forums/blogs but at a search your answers/topics might appear as a result if they are really one of a kind or refer to a topic not very popular online. Links from active and authority forums are always helpful for both seo and direct referrals.
