Hey yall,
I have a pretty big structure on Threads, and I keep noticing the same pattern: whenever one of my picture posts performs really well, like 50k–100k views, bot farms scrape the content and repost it 1:1. They barely change anything, maybe just the caption slightly, but the pictures are exactly the same. And somehow, those reposts often go viral in almost the same way.
My homepage is literally full of 100+ bots posting my exact content. So I’m wondering: how does Meta not detect this?
I always assumed Meta had advanced software for face scanning, image duplication detection, or some kind of visual fingerprinting. But now I’m starting to feel like maybe they don’t use that heavily on Threads, or maybe they’re limited by privacy laws or other restrictions.
The only thing I can imagine they might really analyze is the caption. Maybe if a caption is used too often within 24 hours, it gets flagged, shadowbanned, or distributed less. But with pictures, it doesn’t really feel like there’s strong duplication detection.
I’m also unsure why these copied posts go viral every time. Does Meta maybe recognize the picture as an already successful asset and push it again because it knows it performs well? I don’t fully believe that, because I’ve run a few tests and the results didn’t really support that theory.
So now I’m questioning whether Meta is actually scanning the content itself that much, or whether the algorithm is mostly based on user behavior and psychological signals, like how long people look at the post, how fast they engage, whether they stop scrolling, and how the first audience reacts.
I always thought Meta gives accounts some kind of distribution budget, especially because some accounts perform really well during the first few weeks and then suddenly it gets harder. But with what I’m seeing now, I’m not sure anymore how much is actually based on content detection versus pure user behavior.
Someone else knowing why this happens? And maybe seen the same thing?
