Did this actually ever work for anyone?

I recently read a discussion about a rather old method:

Create tons of hardly readable sites, without actually cloaking them, but show any visitor the pointless made for google content.

The idea: Visitors will click your ads simply to leave the side.

I thought it was a terrible idea back then, but well, being open-minded won't hurt.

So, did this actually work for any of you?

you mean autoblogs? it worked for a bunch of people. it was all the rage a couple years ago.

Ditto, but who knows, it might actually be stupid enough to actually work...

And no, this "method" was not about autoblogs, but completely generated "made for google" splogs. Just readable enough to rank.

I've actually seen a few of them while searching for answers for CISCO final exams.. Those sites where full of random text related to CISCO and networking. In addition there were lots of links pointing to same kind of sites and a few advertisements. The site was ranked pretty high on Google for a relatively competitive keyword so I guess it works if done right!

So yes, it really sounds stupid enough to work..

However it might be harder after the Panda update, dunno

It works with really low competition. I just found an old "site" i made long time ago on free yola subdomain. I forgot about it but recently started getting 2-5 clicks a day.Even got a PR1 after the recent update. Content is total crap and so are the links, google has gone mad....

Not much, but pretty cool for an otherwise pretty worthless site.

Now go and make thousands of them

Of course this works, but Google won't let you use AdSense for long if you slap it on a site like that. Check out megarapid [dot] net for an example. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book.
