Is PR Storm still worth the time to use for backlinks or is it not effective anymore?

From what I understand the rules of the game have changed somewhat and referrer hits are no longer hyperlinked on awstats and webalizer logs unless you make it to the top 30 referrers list in a month... just wondering if this is unfounded rumor or truth?

How about RefererX, is this product worth the $67 the developer wants for it, and will it give you backlinks? I see that he was banned from BHW, just wondering what is up with that, and I see that he has a two week refund period but you have to prove it to him that the product did not increase traffic to your site, seems like a weak product guarantee to me, but what do I know.

One final question, will the Scrapebox pinger do exactly the same thing that PR Storm will do? ...seems like it was built just to do this and for splog commenting.

Thanks, any advice you give to this n:D:)b will be appreciated.

It's not effective anymore, and you will be penalized by search engines. I tested it a while ago and my main page PR dropped from 4 to 1.

partially true - new awstats have that nofollow on the links. Most big hosts like hostmonster etc have autoupdating software that updates awstats across all their clients so yeah it's going to hurt pr storm a bit. But it's not outdated - still tons of referrer spam places if your smart.

But google has caught on and can differentiate some of these links - awstats is a dead giveaway to it, and some of theo thers are pretty obvious. Also the word 'referrer' and other stop words may trigger a penalty..

PR Storm may be dead, I'm unaware of the current dev of the application, but I can tell you that referrer spamming certainly is not dead, of course you need to know what your doing. If your looking to buy software to build backlinks, I highly suggest ScrapeBox.

Nothing against scrapebox, But if you're looking to purely build backlinks via referrer spam. I think it's a waste of money. There is plenty of free applications out there (aka PR Storm) that does the job just fine.

As for referrer spam, I gave it a go a couple of weeks ago. It did work, and yes i got the backlinks. Whether it helped me I don't really know. I certainly didn't "lose" any placings. I needed to put about 30 hits per URL, or sometimes even more. If you look at most of the sites, they are getting spammed like 1k+ hits so it's pretty hard to make the top list.

Also another thing to remember, is that all these backlinks don't have anchor text. So they are just basically... Backlinks for the sake of backlinks. But won't lead you straight to the top of search engines.

What are good search foot prints to use now when looking for sites to ping using the referrer backlink method (pr storm).

I have been playing around with it doing about 25 hits per site, with about 250 sites per day, Scrapbox is great to use for this purpose. It will find the sites, trim to root domain, and then ping using rotating proxies. After a week of doing this not one link has shown up using SEO spyglass. Not sure what I am doing wrong...

How many sites do you ping per day if you want to play it safe, and how many times should you ping the site?

Gah. I hate giving away my nest eggs, But this forum is all about sharing I guess :)

Well the first thing you will notice, is that if you are using PRStorm, They tell you to use the footprint of :

inurl:usage_200803+html

Basically the 2008 is the year (So change that to 2010), and the 03 is the month. Generally speaking, I harvest for the month BEFORE. So if i was to do it today, I usually would use

inurl:usage_201002+html

Although. We are heading to the end of march, So you can use 03 for march if you want.

The next thing you will notice, is that if you go to most of these sites that come up using that footprint. They haven't hyper linked out to the referring sites. Like so :

If you scroll down to "Total Referrers". You will see that they aren't hyper-linked. So no dice there. However if you keep going through all the results, eventually you will find one that does link out, like so :

Now that we have found this one to be linking out. We have to ask ourselves, If we are doing a search, how can we differentiate this from the regular stats. So what onpage text makes this one unique to the ones that don't hyperlink.

Well if you look up the very top of the page, you will see the words "Explain Statistic Terms". And that doesn't seem to come up on these ones that don't hyperlink. So let's give it a go.

http://www.google.com/search?q=inurl:usage_201003%2Bhtml+Explain+Statistic+Terms

If we look at all of these. They ALL have that "Explain Statistic Terms" portion at the top. And all of them also link out to there referrers :)

There is many more like this. That you can find onpage unique factors on ones that link out. It's not that hard :)

As for how many pings per day. IMO, It doesn't matter too much. Remember that the stats are monthly. So doing them all in one huge ping, or over time won't effect the overall results.

Anyways, Maybe I should move this whole post into how to use PR Storm? Use it to great effect anyway. And learn with it. I can gurantee that within a day, Every site using the footprint above will be absolutely slammed.

Pyronaut, thank you so much, that was awesome and exactly what I was looking for! Man, I pray that you are blessed a hundred times over for sharing that...

Frankly if you're focusing on getting backlinks, none of those tools really help much. But if you're looking at real traffic, fast, then the only tool that works is RefererX. You know why? Because it is the only tool that I have ever came acroos that is capable of placing your URL into JavaScript logs such as feedjit, wowzio, wordpress.com, etc. And of course not forgetting older server access base logs such as awstat, webalizer etc too.

Refererx looks interesting, but they do not seem to offer a money back guarantee on the product, and the developer was banned on BHW and I am not sure why so I don't have a warm fuzzy with this app...

Surprisingly there are so many great reviews about refererx around. Just google and you'll be surprise.

I have looked on this forum and have not really found any reviews... I would think that if it was an effective tool then BHW would know about it.

For starters their salespage looks like Junk. I have a pretty big resolution on my screen, And the page is like a tiny slither on my screen. And the videos are even breaking out of the content area.

I don't understand why they are pushing the fact it drives traffic aswell, There is far better ways to drive traffic then referrer spamming. The whole reason people use PR Storm is for backlinks, not to get a couple of odd visitors here and there. And looking at the sales page, It has 95 visitor increase "Wow!". 95 visitors, while cool they were generated out of nothing, Still isn't what I would call amazing visitor counts.

But i have been using refererx. It does bring the traffic i want. It just depends on which keywords you are going to use to harvest the urls from. Of course it is not a 1 day thing you got to be creative with it. If your content is asking people to sign up for cpa or spamming than i guess it would not really help you there.
