Hello, I have a website with only 600 monthly search volume. I have published 12 original articles of 500-750 words. Although 4 months have passed, I am not even in the top 100. This really makes me lose confidence in myself because I failed again. My domain may have fallen into spam, how can I check this? Can you help me please?

there are lots of software or site there you can check your domain backlisted or not just search for it

Thanks for your answer but I don't know how to check it. Can you give a link?

Google it dude its really not that hard.
Why am I really failing if it's not that hard? Over the 4 months, what is the probability that I will enter articles between 750 - 1K words and rank in the top 3 in my keyword with a monthly search volume of 5K?

You can fail cuz your content is low quality or no on page seo optimization or it could be cuz your content is considered spam or your site cannot get top 100 cuz keyword is high comp

Chum, just prefer good-quality link-building if your on-page seo work has done perfectly. Moreover, it is a long-term process to get be ranked, so give your best on your site's both on & off-page seo, I hope one day you will get it!

Probably 0. You need more than 1k words in your articles a lot of the time. You're assuming just because you write content, google will rank you in the top 3.

You need to check your competitors and add info that they don't have. You need to find what the niche is missing. There are 1000's of factors that google considers when deciding the rank of your page.

Add google webmaster and check.
12 articles with 500words each?! Dude that is absolutely nothing!
Create 500k words of content. Build links and then maybe after 3 years you can start bragging that nothing is happening

google doesn't like small and/or new websites anymore because they are stealing the traffic of richer websites and companies, so get used to waiting at least 6 months before your site ranks anywhere... if it even ranks, that is.

As I already mentioned on other beginners' threads you need 3 things to get the delicious google traffic if your site (domain name) is new, and those 3 things are....

1) good keyword research, which means 2 things:

1a) there are no authority / popular websites ranking on the 1st page of google for the keyword you are targeting;

1b) the pages (not the websites, but the particular URLs) that are ranking on the 1st page of google don't have your keyword in the title. For example, if your site is about "dog training" and the keyword you wish to rank for is "how to stop dog barking" you need to do these things exactly as I explain:

- first, log out of your google account (this is VERY important to do before you conduct any keyword research because if you are logged into your gmail / youtube accounts google will show you results based on your search history and preferences, and you don\t want this. You want to know what the real competition is for that particular keyword and to do that you need to be logged out of all of your google accounts first);
- secondly, you need to check your keyword in google USA if your website targets the USA market. If you are targeting your own country's market then simply logging out of your google accounts is enough. But if you reside outside of USA and wish to check the keyword's competition for the USA market you do need to use google.com instead of google.ca, or google.de, or google.jp or whatever your country is. And in order to do that you need VPN / proxy that give you USA-based IP;
- then, after you have logged out of your google accounts and changed your IP to USA-based IP type your keyword into google. In our example the keyword was "how to stop dog barking", and if you see this keyword in the title of the pages that rank on 1st page of google it means that you have competition for this keyword and that it won't be fast and easy to rank for it... not as a new website anyway. Even if the keyword "how to stop dog barking" does not contain all of the words in this order it still means that there is competition. For example, some page ranking on the 1st page could have the title: "Stop Your Dog Barking - A How To Guide", or "How To Make Your Dog Quit Barking", etc.

All these keywords mean the same thing (stop dog barking), and no matter how they are phrased it means the same thing for you: competition. For easy rankings you will obviously want that none of that keyword's variations to show up on the 1st page of google, but this is very hard to find nowadays as most popular niches cover most obvious / easy to find keywords, so you will either have to get more backlinks to your site, or find really obscure keywords that no one knows about, or which no one targets. But you can't do this without a keyword research tool.

So, after you have found an easy to rank for keyword (a keyword that meets conditions 1a and 1b) you move on to step 2 of the ranking process, which is this....

2) create quality content... CONSISTENTLY. I can not emphasize enough how important it is to be consistent nowadays. If you only have 12 articles that you've written a month ago and then did nothing else your site will not rank anywhere, or even if it ranked it will start losing rankings soon. Google is all about stopping us (SEOers) trying to manipulate their algorithm, and we are all about trying to manipulate their algorithm, so this is an ongoing battle that lasts until one of us perishes. So you will have to continue creating content until your become blue, or until it gets out of your ears. There's no way around this if you don't have money to outsource your content creation to other people. If you can afford to pay others to create content for you do it, but the main point is that you need to post content on your site regularly.

Even if it's 1 article per week, or 2 articles per month (although, this is too little in my opinion) it's better that you do it continuously, week by week. Consistency is the key when it comes to ranking new domain names, so make a habit out of posting content at least 1-2 times per week for the next year and I dare guarantee you that - when combined with proper keyword research and quality backlinks - that content will start ranking within 6 months, possibly sooner.

3) After you have gotten your keyword research and content creating all taken care of it's time to start backlinking. But be careful! Getting 100s or 1000s of backlinks to a new domain name can be dangerous, so start off slowly and increase your backlinks gradually. If you'll only get 2-5 backlinks per month for 6 months, then increase to 5-10 backlinks for the next 6 months, and then 10-20 backlinks per month for the next 6 months and so on.... this pattern works well for now and it won't get you into troubles will google. But the backlinks need to be of high quality, which means...

3a) backlinks from RELEVANT sites in your niche. For example, if your niche is "dog training", then getting backlinks from sites that focus on pets, pet supplies, pet food, zoo, pets in general, or animals in general, etc... backlinks from websites in all these categories are the best types of links that you can get and will skyrocket your website in google's rankings like you wouldn't believe. On the other hand, if you get only backlinks from web 2.0s, edu. websites, bookmarking sites, etc... these links will not be as good. They might still improve your rankings a little, but you need tons of them and that's not good for a new domain name. It's better that you stick to high quality backlinks first;

3b) backlinks from relevant sites in your niche that get ORGANIC traffic from google. Unfortunately, google doesn't care only about backlinks anymore cause they've noticed how easy it is for people to get backlinks. So, what did they do to make things harder for us, the SEOers? They have noticed that people nowadays struggle to get quality traffic consistently (and that's also google's doing because they have put monopoly on all traffic and now they are forcing us to buy it from them... typical mafia practices)... so anyway, backlinks alone are good if they are quality backlinks (guest posts from RELEVANT websites in your niche), but in order to push your SEO efforts a step further and consolidate your rankings also try to get backlinks from sites that get organic traffic from google. This point (3b) is not as important as the previous one (3a), but if you can do it for the same price that you would pay for backlinks from relevant websites then do it because you might also get traffic in addition to quality backlinks and if google sees that you are getting referral traffic they will boost your rankings without hesitation;

3c) lastly (not very important but could still help) aim for websites that have high third-party metrics: DA, RD, TF, etc.... But you should only aim for these websites AFTER you have found relevant backlinks in your niche first, not before. Getting a backlink from a 90 DA website might be better than 1 backlink from a 20 DA relevant website, but in general, getting 5 backlinks from 5 websites with DA 15 that are relevant to your niche is better than getting 2 backlinks from 2 90 DA websites like reddit for example. Sure, this is not always true and exceptions might apply, but I was speaking in general: it is better to acquire a consistent number of backlinks from relevant sites in your niche over several months than getting 3-4 backlinks from high DA websites like reddit and wikipedia once.

My domain may have fallen into spam, how can I check this?

I don't know how you can check your domain for spam, but adding it to Google Search Console is a smart thing to do because Google will usually warn you of errors / penalties that your site might have. Also, you can check if your website is indexed by typing this into google:

site:mydomain.com (well, replace "mydomain.com" with your actual domain name, obviously)

If you type that thing into google and see some of your pages appear then your website is indexed by google so you only need to worry about rankings now. And you can do that by following the tips I gave you above

If you want to know whether your site has been blacklisted, there are lots of software available. You can search for it on the Web. It is crucial that you use good-quality links for your link-building campaign. Ensure that your On-Page SEO is perfect because that is what people will see most often.

New site and only 4 months and expected to rank?
That's already a big red flag.
As mentioned earlier, you are probably sandboxed as you have a new site.

Next. Have you done SEO at all on it, on and offsite?
Any backlinks? PBNs, Guest Posts, Niche Edits, blog comments, web2 etc?
You can check via various tools such as but not limited to.
Ahref, SemRush, Moz, Majestic etc.

Your website did not crash OP. It is normal for a new site to get buried for like 6 months.

OP what is the average KW difficulty for your targeted keywords? And what is your current Domain Rating?

Hello again, thank you first for your answers. I want to ask a last question. Ahrefs Keyword displays as difficulty 8 and suggests an average of 15 links for 10 rankings. How true is that? Is an average of 15-20 quality links really enough? How accurate are the Ahrefs word difficulty suggestions? Have you ever tested it before?

OP what is the average KW difficulty for your targeted keywords? And what is your current Domain Rating?
KW difficulty 8
"We estimate that you’ll need backlinks from ~12 websites to rank in the top 10 for this keyword"
How likely are I to be listed in the top 10 with so few links really?

Hello again, thank you first for your answers. I want to ask a last question. Ahrefs Keyword displays as difficulty 8 and suggests an average of 15 links for 10 rankings. How true is that? I never used ahrefs so I don't know the answer. But most keyword tools are unreliable nowadays because google doesn't rank pages anymore based on the keyword\s strength alone. They are ranking a page based on...

(1) site's authority / popularity (how well known the website is in its industry, how big their budget is, and how much traffic the website gets in general);
(2) relevancy (how relevant the website is to the keyword it is targeting, and how relevant the content on the page that you wish to rank for is);
(3) how in-depth the content for that keyword is on the page you are trying to rank for (usually, the more content you have on the page, the more related questions it answers, and the better it uses the LSI terms related to the topic / main keyword of your page the easier you will rank for).

However, all these things still mean nothing if you get no backlinks to your website, and you don't target the right keywords which, sadly, many keyword tools can't assess their true competition because they are not capable of understanding the authority of a website.

I'll give you an example of why you should not care about a keyword's difficulty, no matter which tools tells you that the keyword is hard or easy. Last year (in July) I have created a website in an easy to rank for niche and I've targeted about 9-10 keywords as my main keywords. After 2 months of not doing anything (no content posting and not a single backlinks) but having quality content because the faggots at google have said that having "great quality content" is enough for us to rank our websites.... well, after having this "great quality content" but zero backlinks my site has ranked nowhere in top 100. After 2 months of frustration and disappointment I have started building backlinks and what would you know! The site had slowly started gaining rankings. My rankings have not been great because the backlinks have been shit (I have found this later on), but still, I managed to get one of the keywords in top 100 (at position 76 if I remember correctly) 1 month after buying backlinks.

But here's the interesting part: the keyword that had ranked in top 100 has been one of the 3 keywords that my keyword research tool had said that it's FIERCE to rank for, while the other 6-7 keywords that the tool had deemed as VERY EASY to rank for are nowhere to be seen... not even today. Well, I will admit that I didn't too much with this website after that initial backlinking campaign and only this month I have started working on it again (and checked the keywords' difficulty again and I noticed that in the meantime the "very easy" keywords have become "moderate" or "hard") but the other 3 keywords (the ones that have had "fierce" competition in July 2020 when I built the website) still have "fierce" competition. And yet, one of these keywords with "fierce" competition is ranking in top 100 (on position 80 now, I just checked minutes ago), while the others are still nowhere to be seen LOL

So, moral of the story: do not trust any keyword tool. If you wish to find easy to rank for keywords you will have to do A LOT of in-depth keyword research, and a good way to start is by following the tips I've given you in my previous post. I know that it's a lot of work (keyword research is really the most important part for newbies and those with limited budget, and if you get this thing wrong you will fight an uphill battle trying to rank new domain names in google, sometimes it might take you 1-2 years before you can rank them if you target high competition keywords, and that's assuming that you keep pumping content and backlinks into your site consistently, which you should do anyway).... This, or do what desperate and poor marketers do: churn and burn (create 10-20 different websites in different niches, grab 20-30 poorly written articles targeting long tail keywords and post them on your sites, then see which site starts picking up rankings and start working on it, letting the non-performing sites fade)

you need proper on & off-page seo audit which includes link building, keyword research etc based on the niche. not to mention, your contents are short. with the sandbox period and existing competitors in the market, it takes quite the amount of time to get ranked. so, don't lose hope yet. take proper steps and see what happens!

Let me guess, you in some high ass niche, right?

You're writing about something that has been shared zillion times already, right?

There are a million factors pointing in million directions.

If you fail after 4 months, it just means you are not prepared and you don't have what it needs, do you...?

Remember, you have to fail 1.000 times and get up 1.001 just for a single chance!

Look at reality, we all make mistakes by not looking at reality and what we do VS what we SHOULD do!

Hope you get my point here.

All the best.
