Well the story goes like this..
A month or so ago I made a post in the wicked fire forum
to try and sell 2000 plr articles. No one answered, until
last week.

I got a private message from some guy telling me the
package has been "sold", so I send a message back
telling him to send a payment to my PayPal email.
He sends back asking for an invoice, just to keep
"records". So I did...

Today I receive an email from "PayPal" notifying me
of a pending eCheck payment, I click on a link to
view the details of this transactions and get prompted
by a PayPal page asking me to enter my password.

Note: it asked only for my password not my email.

So I enter my password and get prompted to an other
PayPal page asking me to login with my email and password.
Only to get an error telling me that I'm entering a wrong
password.

2 mins later I had changed my password and security questions
and removed my credit card.

Here are screen shots of the email I received and the supposed
PayPal Page.
Just click on the thumbnails to view the actual pic.

So did I just get scammed? And if so what other steps should I take?

Tnks in advance.

nothing wrong with the link, that page is from paypal, just enter your password, or you just login through paypal homepage, is you want to play safe. :)

Hey desirez28

Unfortunately I was distracted browsing this forum when I
opened the email and entered my password in that page
without thinking.

Next thing I know, I can't access my PayPal account and
had to request a new password.

OK, everybody dies it sooner or later...almost...I did it once and learned my lesson!

NEVER click on links in emails from "PayPal" or "eBay".

If you recieve an email from either one, go the main site through your secure browser and see if the message appears there.

In PayPal, you will see a record of payment, in eBay the email will appear in "My Messages" if it is real.

Caution: In eBay, notifications of a message may actually go out a few minutes ahead of the message appearing in "My Messages" so you may want to give it a few minutes.

In either case, if there is no record of the email on either home site, report the emails to: Spoof AT Paypal.com and Spoof At eBay.com, respectively and then delete the emails.

Again, when working with PayPal or any other payment service, NEVER click on links in emails; always go to your account on the main site.

Same with eBay!

I got loaded one night an hit a link in an eBay email, (Not thinking!) and the next morning found that I had half a dozen motorcycles for sale and that my PayPal preferences in eBay had been changed to an email address which looked very similar to my real one!

Not being in the motorcycle biz, I contacted eBay and we fixed it with no loss of anything but my underwear, which I had to change!

These eBay and PayPal scammers are very, very good so watch out!

I also beleave that the real emails that come from PP have you first and last name on them at that stat of the letter

another think to look for when you are on pay pal or most payment sites the url will not be http: but usually https:// for secured server. I almost got scammed before. Received an email that used pay pal logo and a url very similiar to pay pal. I then logged into my pay pal account throught the main home page and discoverd for sure it was a scam and forwarded the email to paypal security who verified it was in fact a scam. Seems like i've been getting a lot of phishing emails lately esp. claiming I have won money or been given a free grant useing reputable names like microsoft.

Tony, learn from this lesson, don't click again without think if the title about Paypal or ebay or even your online bank request, hope your money is still there....

Hi guys, me first time 'ere :)
Umm Im sure I read that even now your hosts file can get altered so when you type a URL it appears to go to Paypal but goes to a spoof ste and that teh only real way is to save the IP address for the main site in your favourites folders.. anybody know anything about this?
thx
