Did I get penalized, why?

Something strange happened... Friday I was in the number 1 position in Google for a certain article, now I don't even rank with that article. I've searched google search console to see if I have some spammy backlinks to my article the results were clear no spammy links, I also checked for duplicate content even though I wrote this article the results was- no duplicate content. I could find any answers regarding why did I get penalized.

If anyone has an idea, I would be thankful

Assuming there are no penalty messages in Google Search Console...
How old is your site?
When did you publish the article?
How long was it ranking in top spot(s) for?

That's the problem with ranking, how long did it take you to achieve the number 1 rank?

SAme happened with me once, I removed excessive keyword, took just 3 days to get my rank back up
Just check the exact title with your site name, If you cannot find the article, its definitely penalized

It's probably just a bounce and will come back again - unless you've been doing shady stuff.

I think Google sometimes do this - drop sites etc to see what you'll do next - if suddenly loads of links appear then they know you're being a very naughty boy and will punish you.

If you set up Adwords they'l probably put you right back at no.1

It happened to me once and I tried a lot of stuff to get it fixed. Google is not so good at providing us with the visibility on why we're penalized.
