What's your take on this?

I read so many posts, tweets and comments about how people were pissed that their site lost traffic even though it was completely original.

Example, a Travel blog with original content and original images got deindexed or lost their ranking.

I understand that there are shitty ai sites out there but I don't believe Google really knows what's what.

If you build a blog with all original content, you can still get hit during the updates.

I'm just wondering if any of you will still continue using AI to write content..

Yes, Google has been using AI in various ways to improve its search results and user experience
One example is the BERT algorithm, which helps Google better understand the context of words in search queries, leading to more relevant results

It's not AI per se.

It's low quality content, especially mass produced.

Sites with very high content drip feed rates were hit the hardest. Those are the manual penalties you read about.

It's related bit that's not what OP is asking.

Mostly, poorly developed AI content structures were hit.

And that happened to be a lot of the AI content as a whole. Some were lazy and attempted to just mass-produce AI content and the most amount possible in the shortest amount of time.

There’s also a large amount of the SEO community that barely format their content.

This is true, but it's also disappointing that sites with content manually written got hit as well.

In the recent update, Google hit the AI content sites very hard because Google sees it as spammy content and irrelevant to the readers. As you said, the handwritten content was also affected by the update. Yes, it happened because of the poor-quality content and misinformation to the reader. So, the content quality should be high and informative to the user by optimizing the content and keywords towards the site niche and SEO guidelines.

AI content is good if you provide the right information.
