Did Anyone Break Free From the Panda Update Last Year?

Title says it all. Wondering if anyone was EVER able to break free from last year's February Panda update without a reconsideration request and without 301ing. I've heard some people say they have, but it took nearly 9 months. Did you just continue to write content and do whitehat back linking?
