Develop a Search Engine Like Google

Or perhaps OP shouldn't think on "searching all the web terms". I think there are niches where web search could be improved. I don't know, throwing some ideas could be that "Offers search" is not as complete as we think, perhaps categorize it by products, obviously by ending time, etc.

I see a lot of questions and answers here, no one has asked the most question. What is the intended engines purpose? That will ultimately determine who you hire, what language it's coded in, what resources will be required (hardware/software), and so on.

my thought is: You need fastest bots to crawl links and store in database. then a script/algo to show results on query.

Now do deep research in it.

same time I would like to say at a $10,000 budget you have allot of options and if I was you I would consider them.

You will definitely be able to find a good programmer, etc within your 10k budget to develop the software. But you would need a lot of other things to come together to achieve this, and a lot more money as well.

Good example: Kickstarter funded project Diaspora (to compete with other social networks), only looked to raise $10k off kickstarter, but ended up raising close to $200k.

They got free PR, marketing, and all kinda buzz through Kickstarter during the crowdfunding period and after. When they finally released it for a few it actually resembled another new social network named 'Google +'. And Google being Google, got more than 40m users to less than 300k users for diaspora. Less than a year later the founders quit the project and made it 'a free software social project' and gave all control to the community and moved on. Good thing is, it was not their money they put to make the project (maybe a couple of grands in the start).

So think wisely before spending that hard earned 10K or more. Maybe you will find a better idea to pursue and hit a different niche and achieve something better. Everything is a risk, but take smart risk...

The best thing to do I think is a search engine specialised in 1 particular area - especially one that is being 'neglected' by google - like torrents, or something. Then you can concentrate on one thing, (smaller scale) and if your SE is good, you will convert unhappy google users..

probably the most difficult part is indeed the marketing as someone said. but competing head to head with google is not realistic, its like I want to compete with McDonalds so I open a McShonalds under my flat selling exactly the same menu as McDonalds.. Better make a Curry Burger joint, at least curry fans will come..

I would say don't demotivated by the comments. Every successful thing in the world was once a stupid idea. My advice is to be wise to make the decisions and ask to the people who can show you the right path instead of just saying 'You can't do that'.
