Dell or HP Laptop?

I bought an hp photosmart printer and it was absolute shit, as for their computers I am clueless. I've had a dell pc for about 6 years and I still love it!

i bought 4 HP laptops about 18 months ago all failed within 12 months - stay clear of cheap Dells my recommendation would be any of the Dell XPS laptops, they are good solid laptops as far as i am concerned.
 
My experience is a little different. I have had great luck with HP products.

I think it has more to do with the model you get rather than the brand and
how you treat your computer.

I also like HP inkjet printers because the print head is built in to the cartridge,
everytime you change the cartridge, print quality is like brand new. That's
why most public librarys use HP printers.
 
I have HP Pavilion dv9700t and I have to say it's really great. It works great and it looks great.
 
I've bought,sold and worked on thousands of Dells and other brands of laptops. Dell gets my vote for quality and durability hands down.

Precision M90 for me.
 
I would go with Dell. Much better quality than others and very very quiet. When I use my other laptop (Packard Bell) the fan noise get on my nerves after a few minutes.
 
I've got both and my dell has been better for me, and it's 2 years older than my hp. I originally got this hp with the 64 bit platform but quickly changed it into a 32 bit system and it's worked much better since. Anyone else had trouble with a 64 bit? I sure as hell did.

I have a gateway, an M465 and i love this laptop, had it for over a year and it hasn't give me any troubles at all. I have never owned any HP laptops but i have owned 2 dell laptops, they were complete and utter garbage. Both of the screens died on them as well as the optical drives and 1 hard drive. Granted they weren't the top model, Inspiron 1100's i think but a product with the dell name on it none the less. My girlfriend's parents had a dell desktop and the motherboard died in that one, wasn't even a year old. I'm very gentle with my laptops also, i don't travel alot so they usually sat on my desk along with my desktop, but when i did travel they were always in a carry bag. just my 2 cents

Id agree... After working on them for so many years now you begin to realise that the build quality on dells cant be matched. Apart from the HDD's failing which aint really a Dell fault, ive seen users working away on 7year old Dells with paint worn off, flappy lids and the years of crumbs and god knows what else hidden behind the keyboard and when you tell them they can have a new one, they just srug there shoulders as if to say, im happy with what ive got!!!

On that note, the last place i working decided to introduce HP desktops for the design team (replacing there Dells)... After several heated debates and a few management meetings the design team are now running nice sinny Dells....
 
I was using HP pavilion From Last 3 Years. It was Going fine and best laptop i used yet.

It Worked gr8 But day before yesterday i think its hard disc got sm Bad Sectors..or may be it was crashed down. I not have much idea but might be it can be recovered.

Now, After 3Years
HP really Sucks,they r just booming up with there trust able brand name. But az per quality and services it gone really down with new notebooks.

As, per Dell they r coming with good quality products with better configurations and services. So now I prefer to go for DELL this time as they boom up with there brand but also have Quality | Price | and | Services too.
 
When I bought my first Dell laptop 4 years ago it was alright in the beginning but it had some really awful overheating issues. It would get so hot on many occasions I thought it was going to explode in my face (Dell's have done this before) :eek:

I scrapped that one and now have a lenovo (IBM) and it's great. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, I think they make the best laptops available today.
 
I don't know about their laptops, but I'm on the family's early 2005 model Dimensions 4700 desktop and we've never had a hardware problem with it. I will say the the Dell lcd monitor somehow got a crack in the corner plastic, but it's been there for year's and never affected anything.

Dells you can get refurbished from there website. I will say I don't know if they're actually great computers in general or not since I haven't had much to compare to, but like I said our desktop is still running fine.

If you're buying offline then ask them to let you physically get a feel of the options.

I would go with Dell, although I have no cons for HP.
 
I hate to step in and be a Mac fanboy, but if you are open to an alternative to a Windows PC, give a Mac a try. You can install and run Windows as well as OS X, and IMO the hardware and OS X are far superior. I'm on a Mac mini right now, but will be purchasing the new unibody Macbook within a couple of months. Since switching a couple years ago I have not looked back.
 
tl;dr

don't buy a dell.. my laptop is really buggy even with xp on it & the support is piss poor

my next laptop will be a lenavo (cant remember the spelling)
 
I recommend dell business computers. The business computers can be cheaper are definitely better quality and do not have all the junk preloaded on them. I have a dell vostro 15 inch with core 2 duo 2.5Ghz processor, 4 gb ram, 250 gb hard drive and win xp for less than $1200.
