If you get a Dell laptop, get an XPS.
My main computer is a Dell XPS M1730, which I love to death. At 12 pounds, though, it sits on my desk and doesn't move much (if at all). It's amazingly fast, and after having it for a year, I've had zero problems with it. I'm a longtime XPS laptop buyer, and have loved the quality of them as opposed to the "normal" dell lines.
Additionally (and this is what sealed the deal for me 3 times in a row with buying the XPS laptops), you get instant access to USA-based tech reps who will help you. They have a special queue setup for the XPS owners, based somewhere in PA (that's what the guy told me a couple years ago, anyway) and when you enter your product code on the phone prompts, they take you directly to that queue. The longest I've ever waited on hold was 15 minutes.
