Links on delicious, like most SB sites are no-follow.
So, in terms of backlinking, they do not serve you much, HOWEVER, you can use them get a new site indexed pretty fast as well as get some targeted traffic from these SB sites.

You can get backlinks from article directories or blogs which you create on your own.
You can also register to high PR forums and get links from your profile and signature. Blog commenting also helps, but be aware that almost all Wordpress blogs are no-follow as well.

Identi.ca and all of its clones recently became no follow. It was possible for a while to get hundreds of backlinks automatically with each blog post through these sites, and they changed to no follow due to spam.thanks for your tool damned freak and comment
