Found a domain name I like the sound of. I quickly checked the domain with domaintools whois and noticed it says "Domain status: Deleted And Available Again".

Need some help deciding if I just register it and hope for the best OR keep searching.
Is there anyway to check why it was deleted in the first place?

    Cheers

Not really. Check the backlink profile and wayback machine. If you see something suspicious, just move on.

First thing I did was look it up on archive, handful of snapshots over the years, nothing that looks suspicious but I'm curious why it would have been deleted.

You can satisfy your curiosity by just spending a few $$ to buy the domain, set it up with a few pages and wait to see if (1) it will be index in no time, (2), it will be ranking in the top 100.

Just because it got deleted doesn't mean there is something wrong with it. I registered several deleted domains, perfectly fine, still ranking with the old backlinks only.

If it's for a new money site, personally I always start with a fresh domain.
