No it's not, I OWN real estate and stocks, tangible stuff.

Gambling you OWN nothing. It's just a bet or wager.

And some people put down money to OWN a home, capital gains are secondary.

Yes, but you also OWN the money you put down in poker.

The word "gambling" on its own has many meanings.



To gamble is to risk. If there's no risk you can't call it a gamble.

Yeah, the value of real estate and stock is really tangible especially after what happened in the Great Recession!

You win, or you lose. That is the outcome.

Same with real estate and stocks.

I was shocked that he took the day's gross receipts, and we drove an hour to get to the Indian Gaming casino. We walked in from minus 30 degrees at 2:00 am, and found the cashier behind wrought-iron bars. I'd never seen $10.00 tokens before. He stuffed about 20 of them into the first machine we came to, right near the entrance, and suddenly it started spewing forth an endless stream of large metal tokens. He hit for about $5,000, and once we had it counted and bagged, I started moving toward the cashier and the door, and he started moving deeper into the casino.

This was my first real "gambling" experience. I thought the whole point of gambling was to WIN. As soon as you really, REALLY won, you took your money and you ran, as fast as you could toward the exit, before the invisible casino tentacles wrapped around your body and pulled you back into it's gaping maw.

"But we just got here!" he exclaimed, with a genuine look of dumbfounded confusion. And so he decided we were staying. We finally escaped into the frigid sunshine, and the sun's laser permanently etched the engraved word "LOSER" on my optic nerve, so that the word appeared like a watermark on everything I looked at.

He was buoyant, almost jubilant. He'd "had a good time", even though we needed to hit the bank on the way back home, in order to have enough cash to lubricate the till, in advance of another day's business. This was the day I learned what the word "gambler" really meant.

Winners quit while they are ahead, and gamblers aren't satisfied until they have lost everything.
