Dedicated Server for Marketing Apps??

What type of server setup (windows) are you guys using to run your applications? a VPS just isn't cutting it for me anymore. My SEO software alone is using up 1GB of ram and around 1.2GHZ of processing speed, not to mention the countless other marketing apps im running.

This is the setup im thinking about switching over to:

Intel Dual Xeon X5620 Westmere 8x2.40 GHz 2.0 TB SATA II 24 GB RAM

I'm not sure if people run multiple programs at once they usually just buy more machines.

Imagine how much bandwidth you'll be using running all your SEO stuff especially on a bandwidth limited dedicated server.

I use to run applications on multiple machines, but i really dont see the point in doing that if i can just put everything on a single machine. Bandwidth isnt an issue as most data centers these days offer at least 1TB of bandwidth.

Bandwidth is still an issue. He's referring to max speed attainable in timeframe. Even though most host claim to be running 100 mbit lines, most are slower than that. Imagine if your max download speed was 500 KB/s and your marketing apps are using up all that bandwidth then your sites would be slowed. Doesn't matter if your max transfer is 1TB if you capped by the max speed already.

Depends on the host like you mentioned... In my situation bandwidth isn't the problem, the current DC i do business with provides me with burstable speeds up to 1000Mbps & 50 mbps guaranteed at all times.

Ditto what everyone else is saying. I run dedis and VPS servers. I tried exactly what you're purposing and it sucked. Lots of apps conflict with each other and you can suck the bandwidth out of any pipe if you're doing this right; even a dedi pipe.

Another issue you'll find is dedi hosts are much more particular about what is on their network. For example most won't allow you to install proxy software to run your own private proxies. Also they are much tougher to get extra IPs on a different classes. Most don't even offer different class IPs to a dedi.

I found running my SEO apps and proxies on VPS servers is the only way to go. It's a bit more of a pain to work with but it's reliable and gets the job done

Another benefit is I throw blogs on all these different VPS servers so they all have different C classes on my linkwheel. Keeps Google guessing.
