HG have shut me down 6 times this week so I have given up with them.

Yes, I was driving a lot of traffic to my site and using up quite a few processes so it is quite clear that I may need my own dedi.

Could someone recommend one to use that can handle 100K-250K DB connections per day that is easy for a dedi newbie to setup?

I'm a complete newb when it comes to hardware, servers etc, which package would you recommend?

I'm also going to buy XRumer sometime soon and was wondering, is it recommended to get a Windows server for XRumer and host my sites on it too?

If you can use it then get linux. You get more for your money.
I'd NOT use xrumer on a dedicated server where important stuff of yours is running.
Run it far away in another datacenter;)

I think you should get at least 2gb of ram when you order your server. Here is a good guide to set up your server. The dedicated Server Handbook http://rapidshare.com/files/204160996/beginner-server-linux.pdf.html You can install Windows on a linux server to run Xrumer.

gimme4free, I would do my research on webhostingtalk.com as they are dedicated to talking about hosting & reviews. I would be researching how good the support is and how easy they are to get a hold of to ask simple questions. When I got a dedi, I could not manage for the life of me, to get everything set up the way I wanted and it was only on a partial-support host so they only fixed major problems. But yea, good luck :)

And risk getting all your mostly legal stuff banned because of the high volume spam caused by xrumer? 99% of all datacenters will ban your ass once they find that out or start receiving abuse complaints. Spam is usually against ToS.
    --------

gimme4free: this heavily depends on stuff your "connections" actually cause.
A php script will have more impact than a html file.
Database queries can be easy and fast or causing heavy CPU and IO demand.

You'll need to invest some money if you want high performance, you can also just try a lower package and see how it performs.
You can get a good linux PC for 30-50$ /month
You can see how well that works, if you see it is too weak you could think about using a 2nd one and balance the load (or run it as dedicated database server) or upgrading to a larger package.

If you want those options look for a contract that does not bind you for more than 1-2 months, then you can just switch the offer.

    Cheap: Sempron/Celeron
    Middle class: Athlon/P4
    Higher end: Dualcore
Highend: Quadcore - dual quad core

Xeon PCs rule the highest segments usually.

I have a mysql database + php script which does small and fast queries on a P4 3000, it receives 40k-50k hits per day.
This causes about 30-50% CPU load all the time.

    ----
I could get you cheap rates for legal stuff in a german datacenter if you want a very good PC, I'd have to talk to the guy. (only if you want real high end stuff)
I can recommend burst.net, they have good closeout/sale prices and stability (cloakfish.com and a few other projects run there)

Uhh.. most people who purchase Xrumer install it on a server. I have it running on 2 servers.

I've also considered getting dedicated server. HG has warned me a couple of times and almost suspended my accounts. From doing research I concluded that serverbeach was the best choice. However I'm gonna wait a month or two before getting one since right now I have a lot on my plate.

Hey buddy, with that kind of number of max simultaneous db connection, I'm pretty sure you'll still be having random connection problem with your db.

You should consider of having two dedicated servers behind a load balancer (shared or dedicated load balancer).

Contact ******** for your xrumer hosting. It's rather pricy but the most reliable xr hosting IMHO.
