If i get a vps and register many additional IPs, anytime I use the additional IPs will websites detect my the additional IP or the main VPS server IP? I was under the assumption that they detect the additional IP but when I tested my ip on ip lookup sites they detect the main vps server, not the additional IP.

Depending on how the company you're using does their setups you'd want to change your main IP on their interface. Then go and change it in your internet options on the VPS. You should lose connection once you click ok after you've set the new IP. Reconnect using the new IP and you should be all set.
