December Core 2020 Update: How did it affect you ?

I have a micro niche based on geography. It got hit from early 2020 and May updates. Now it got a huge boost and got back traffic lost from 2019. On pace to even make higher highs in traffic. When I lost traffic in early 2020, I did do PPC for several months. Then stopped during the pandemic. If this persist, there is no reason for me to do PPC unless I want to scale. It's a 4 year old site. Used to get PBNs but now I barely do linkbuilding. My routine is at least 1 article a month, some social signals and 1 guest post. That's been it all year.

One thing I did do was make my content more Covid related and still relevant to my niche. That's the only thing I can think of content wise that I changed. Honestly think I just got the luck of the draw this time around with this Google core update.

If there is one conclusion from this past year I can make is site age has become more important. I have another affiliate site that sat in page 6 of a competitive niche for 3 years and then got into 2nd page this year for no reason. It barely got hit in December, as I don't build links to it. I just post scraped content and add my own flavor to it. But it's about 4 years old now and I can probably scale it when/if I go back to it.

we got rid of the effect, our job is to fix every problem :smirk:

No complaints here. (Avg position of my main 320 keywords)

I did not do anything extraordinary. I kept publishing new articles, kept building backlinks, kept updating 2-3 years old pages.

I am still lower than I expected. On the other hand I am doing some optimization (at least I hope so :) ) in terms of the sites structure and maybe this is the impact. Generally, nothing substantial.
