Does anyone else find random people calling you a "friend" annoying? I have people I know, I have buddies I go out for a drink with and I also have 3 or 4 friends who are always there for me and will do anything for them. I'm ok with people calling me mate, dude or whatever but not somebody I meet for the first time in my life calling me "friend". In most cases people who call you "friend" also want something from you. "Yyyeeesss my friend! Buy the carpet!" or "Friend, help me earn money!".

Yet again, I have not had a cigarette since NYE so it might just be me being annoyed with everything.

reminds me of john mccain. MY FRIENDS :> and also, reminds me of squeeze pages.

I dont think its wrong calling you friend. Whats big deal in that?

A perspective client paying you $1000 for a service u r providing should only call you friend?

to me someone you barely know calling you friend is condescending

Exactly the word I was looking for. I was going to use "cunning" even.

createrk

No, the only person calling me "friend" should be my friend. I don't care if they are paying me $1000 or not. Obviously regardless of the situation I would be polite and attempt to hide my annoyance.

I only call people "friend" when I really want to annoy them. Or when I want to start a fight in a pub.

I only do this when I'm marketing to DP members :D
I think it's "friendly" though, no harm in that.

lol I know exactly what you mean. It's either someone trying to be sarcastically offensive like "hey chief, line ends back there" or someone trying too hard to sell you something and develop a good rapport with you. Either way, very annoying and usually ends in fisticuffs not friendship.

So I take it you didn't vote for McCain, huh lol

Does buddy annoy you? I very occasionally use that term, but never friends.

rjohn mccain. MY FRIENDS.
Pissed me off to no end. Look John, I'm not your friend. So you must not be talking to me. How the hell do you have the nerve to speak on national television and call EVERYONE friend?

With that said.... I still support RON PAUL. (don't hate)

Actually, I think someone trying to be my "friend" and calling me "pal" or "buddy" is just icky.

Dude doesn't bother me.

Mate just makes me wish more Americans would adopt the phrase. I think it's got something to do with the australiophile in me. I just love that phrase. (No offense to you blokes in the U.K. but it has a bit harsher tone in my head when one of "ya'll" uses it.)

Friend...

Well it depends on who's saying it. If they have a thick accent, I forgive it completely. If they are clearly American, it makes me want to shove a jalapeno in their eye. If they are from the U.K. or Australia, I wonder why they didn't say mate.

It all depends, bro.

And by the way, "bro" is one that I'm still trying to figure out. I use it, but even I don't know why.

Amongst close friends I'll use "brother" or "my brother" (pronounced "brutha" and "my brutha"), but I only have a handful of friends at that level, and I literally consider them part of my family so it doesn't seem weird to me, or them.

What REALLY pisses me off, is getting an email from a fellow marketer that uses the %name% wildcard because I sign up for all that bullshit with bullshit names.

I've been:

Red Linstone (fred flintstone)
Fargin Icehole (fucking asshole)
Sehr Supamalot (Sir Spamalot)
etc.

On a LOT of opt in lists and NONE of them have ever bothered to even read the names. They just autorespond.

What an absolute waste of an opportunity. If they had ever bothered to send me a "Hey, Fargin is an interesting name. Where does it come from?" I probably would have bought their bullshit product just because they bothered to try.

But that's just me.

I don't care for a lot of 'friendly' terms people use, including chief, mate, sport, champ, dude, man, and fella.

'.... But There ... Uhh, Are Many ...Uhh More Things I ...Uhh Consider Aggravating ...Uhh Too. Of Course There Are Several In These Last Two Sentences But Alas I Digress I Am Starting To Ramble On And Getting Off Point So Let Me Try To Get Back On Topic Before I Hijack This Poor Guys Thread And He Gets Mad Calls Me Names Like Friend Plus I Don't Want To Get Flamed By The Great Members Here So I Will Just Leave It At That But I Think You Get My Point Dont You?

But My Biggest One Are People Who Just Don't Try To Spell Correctly. For Example, There, Their, To, Too, Know, and No Are Not Interchangable. Just A Few Pet Peeves Of Mine.

But I Don't Take Them Too Seriously.

One that really pisses me off is bra. I might would watch dog the bounty hunter more if he'd stop saying that word every time he talks to someone.

I don't care if they call me friend. If I don't like them I just shrug it off and I don't care. I work at a computer lab and I have heard it all. Thanks Cheif, Thanks Boss, Thanks Friend. Although it seems weird when people say Thanks Guy!

i like to be call Balls .....

Better than ppl from Asia who call u brudderrrrrr....

Well, if a random person calls me friend, i will smile back and tell them that since we are friends there is this survey that they need to complete because all my 'friends' have done it too, and then i avoid them at all costs thereafter :)
