Hey fellow BHWlers

I see this way too often:
Spammy / scammy stuff is posted on here and instead of simply reporting the post and just letting it bury itself, dozens of people comment stuff like "reported.", "bye noob", "banhammer incoming" and keep bumping the thread, unneccesarily giving those spammers lots of exposure.

It gets even worse when people start quoting the original post which pretty much gives spammers a hand by spreading the unwanted link / email address, etc furher and making moderator lives hard, because now they have to remove links from the quotes as well.

Some users that are doing this are obviously just in it to increase their post / thanks count (you can "farm" thanks surprisingly well doing this), but often enough I reputated members doing it too, so I think there might just be a lack of "education".

Just to be clear, there's also people like our beloved detective @Asif WILSON Khan , who has frequently been super helpful in explaining that & why something is spam. But when it's super obvious / when already someone pointed out that the post is scam, we don't need 20 more users posting "reported" in that thread.

Therefore, I suggest a sticky in sections which are prone to spam (eg. Making Money), explaining this exact problem, asking users to think twice whether their post really adds value before bumping spammy threads.

I tried to bring this to a couple users attention in the past, but I felt like I was talking to a brick wall (Not my job, I know, but I thought it would help). I really think having a sticky thread to refer to would help fight this problem.

Less exposure for spammers > Fewer spammers come to BHW > More time to make $$$
yay! :)

Sounds like an interesting idea. It does irk me when users quote spam or comment instead of reporting, although many members still send in reports about spam. As long as there's one member reporting spam, we'll see it and take care of it.

Anyway, I'll ask the administrators what they think of this idea and see if I can set time aside to write up a thread. I'll post an update below once I get a response.
