Hey I am wondering if anybody has the scoop
on the blackhat practice of de-ranking your competitors
pages in the serps.

I have been building sites and ranking well for a certain niche,
but at the top of most of the highest searched keywords there
is a guy with a page that eludes to the niche being a scam. He
is holding the number one spot pretty firmly for a few keywords
receiving the bulk of the traffic for this niche. His page serves as
a pretty big deterrent to anyone doing research on whether or
not they would like to buy.

I am wondering if there is some sneaky blackhat practices I can
put into use to get him de-ranked. I am tired of him shoo-ing away
customers.

This might help you.

You might also want to get them a few hundred links on matt cutts' personal blog (it works).

Or, report them to google for spamming, after you add their link to some obvious spam pages. If they're using a web 2.0 platform as-well, report them for spam.

Often however, these just don't cut it, and you have to out compete sites the hard way. You can do it.

Spaming his links might help if he doesn't have good quality links.
However you are going on the negative track. Instead of trying to get ahead of him you are trying to get him down which is a negative attitude and will not help you to succeed in long run.
You might be able to pull him down, but if another guy gets that spot. You will be continuously trying to get your competitors down. Instead you can spend the same time and efforts to boost your own site.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will check out that thread.

Well I am not necessarily going on the negative. This guy
isn't exactly a competitor. He is a guy who is teaching a lot of
people that the niche is a scam, so he is lowering the amount of
sales made in the niche. I am fine with just out ranking competitors
selling a product in the niche, but this guys page is meant to
stop the niche as a whole.

even if I out rank him, he will still then be #2 and people will still read
his page about how the niche is a scam.

I don't mind giving out the niche... Type in satellite tv for pc or satellite
tv on pc and you will see this guys page at the top talking about
how the niche is a scam. It's just one of his side pages. He
randomly reviews products from as much as I can tell on his site.

I am just trying to figure out a way to get this page de-ranked
because I am sure his page is having a negative effect on the
niche, expecially with it's 250 comments on his page.

This subject comes up other times as well when one is dealing
with a crazy popular authority page like wiki, amazon, ebay forum
results. So it would be nice to know some methods to get
around pages like this.

It will be tough to de-rank him since the guy got links from .gov and edu pages as well.

I would say you target similar keywords with another webpage+a number of web2 properties. You need to mention in your webpage that there is scam in Satellite PC niche, but the ones you are suggesting are pretty good. The people who read Bob's site definitely would like a second opinion and would like to see more sites with similar opinion. If they all they get sales pitch the surfers will not be happy.
So confirm their suspicion and recommend your sponsor as a good guy.

PS: As a matter of fact Satellite TV on PC is really a scam ;)

ya thanks neo. That is the way I am going with my page. Picked a product without "satellite tv for pc" or "digital tv for pc" in the title so I could knock off the others and agree they are a scam.

Just still wondering if there is some blackhat tricks to de rank someone.

This is the blackhat seo section :P.

P.S. Oh yeah, I know it's a scam niche, but I would rather the buyers dont know that :P.

Don't be a sucker and outrank them in a fair way.

get xrumer, blast his sites on some shitty sites.
Ne1 know if it actually works to de-rank a stable first spot page? or is
it just going to make him stronger.

Don't be a sucker and outrank them in a fair way.
You can move onto white hat seo, but yea, he's not a competitor, so simplt outranking wouldn't help. He would still be doing dmg at #2.

yeah i agree... don't be a fool. be a good sport and outrank him your own way

contact the sites linking to them and say why the competitor sucks and should link to you instead.

This is quite unethical. Again, your competitor might be any member of this forum.
