Keeping a competitors website offline is a better negative SEO method than the conventional spam link method. Man where are we heading. If the blogger is to be believed then this market is growing at more than 150% every year. Not long time from now you will find those gigs selling on fiverr offering DDoS attacks.

Only a very limited number of individuals is able to create a true DDoS attack.
Most of the DDoS attacks are in the category of "child games", you can stop them by a simple firewall rule.

The real attacks, when they happen block you from the access to the server itself (not just the website), and as I said only a few will be able to implement those.
So there is nothing to fear.

I was under DDOS attack, sucurinet save me for $10 / month, but when the "hacker" know already yout real server IP it's to late, so also change your server at the same time
But after all that if a real strong hacker want kill your site you are in a big trouble

LOL that post was a clusterfuck to promote the author's web hosting company and nothing more.

DDOS has been around since before the concept of SEO was introduced.

Also, his featured image is essentially GSA SER spammy links and then talks about DDOS attacks.

Then he ends it with how his hosting company can help you save $299 a month, because they use Incapsula!

Cloudflare has a free option to protect your site from DDoS attacks. Saw some big websites use it even though they could afford a paid option.

Use Cloudflare. There's no need to blow things out of proportion. DDOS was there and it will be there in the foreseeable future, just like SEO.

I'm using Vultr and it has a DDOS protection plan, seems to be working fine for me, I got several attacks.

+1 to it. I have faced DDoS attacks maybe 8-10 years ago. But then it did not last long and I hardly cared. DDoS is not hacking. It cannot take your website down but can just make it unreachable for some time. Nowadays, many hosting servers are protected against basic DDoS attacks. And with the passage of time, there are a lot of free options for prevention against DDoS attacks like Cloudflare and Incapsula. So, the risks have further reduced with time. Anyways, it has hardly happened that a DDoS attack permanently reduced the Google ranking of any website. Most attacks end in anything between a few hours to a couple of days. No DDoS attack is permanent. At least, I am yet to see one that is permanent. A proper DDoS would cost a lot of time and money and no one has got so much free time or money to waste on a DDoS forever.
