DayZ - does anyone here play?

Hey everyone.

I've recently started playing DayZ again and I'm looking for some people to play with. I already play with a couple guys who are pretty good but we're always looking for more.



::::: Some Info About The Game :::::

If you don't know what DayZ is well then I'll explain. DayZ is a Mod for the game Arma 2. The mod takes the game and makes it a post zombie apocalypse, which is pretty sweet lol.

The zombies are the least of your worries though. The other players will kill you just for your backpack!

There's civilians, heros, and bandits. Civilians are the freshly spawned players who haven't lost or gained any humanity. Heros are the players who kill bandits and help other players out. Civilians can gain humanity by killing bandits or helping out other players. Bandits are, if you haven't figure it out already, the players who just kill other players for sport. They've lost all of their humanity and now get a bandit skin to differentiate them from the civilians and heros. Oh, if you get your humanity up enough to become a hero then you get the hero skin.

There's a day and night cycle which you can use in order to navigate if you know what time it is. It's pretty much impossible to play at night if you don't have night vision goggles (I just lost mine )

There's a ton of guns in the game and you can also fix up vehicles and store gear in them as well as find tents then set them up and store your gear. Just be warned that even though people can't steal your tents, they can still get in them and take your gear so place your tents and vehicles in safe places.

The part that is fun and the most annoying at the same time is that when you die, you lose all your gear. You can run back to your body and get all your gear back, or whatever the other player didn't want off your body. But if the player who killed you decided to click 'hide body' then all your gear is gone

Well that's a quick overview of the game. If anyone here plays just let me know what server and I'll let you know if I'm able to join. I tend to play at night, my time. So I'm usually on when +7 is daytime.


::::: Some Videos To Look For :::::

If you want to see some videos for the game just go on youtube and type in "frankie DayZ" without quotes of course. This dude Frankie is insane at this game haha Be sure to start with episode 1. He has something like 28 or 29 videos and some of them are around 1 hour long.

Or for a good laugh look up on youtube "robbaz dayz" lol. He also goes by the name 'King of Sweden' which some of you may know already haha.

Origins is pretty sweet. There's not as much random killing because people are focusing more on building camps.

The standalone is going to be sweet

I used to.

I'm decent at FPS. But every. single. time. I log in I'll aggro a zombie and get shot.
The last time I played before uninstalling Arma went like this:

Log in. Found a place to loot. Oops, aggroed a zombie. Boom, smacked with a crowbar.
Ragequit and uninstall.

lol, you have to figure out what buildings have 2 entrances so you don't get cornered by zombies.

The very beginning right after you spawn is the most difficult part of the game because you're not sure where to go, don't have a gun (normally), and zombies are pretty much everywhere.

Some tips on how to lose zombies easily.

If you're in the woods:

1. (recommended because you can keep running the direction you want) Run through pine trees and close to groups of bushes. Zombies tend to get slown down by them and have to walk for a little bit. This will give you time to run away. This doesn't work with every pine tree or bush so just keep running and check behind you every couple seconds.

2. Find the steepest hill and run up it. Zombies have to walk up the hills that are extremely steep so that gives you time to escape.

3. Run into a lake or large pond. You'll slow down a ton but so will the zombie once it gets in the water. You can actually swim a little faster than them so once you get out the other side just keep sprinting in the direction you wanted to go. (not recommended because it's slower and if there's a sniper in the area he will most likely shoot you because it's such an easy shot lol)


If you're in a city or town:

1. Run in circles around a building. You'll lose the zombie after completely running around the building. The turning radius of the zombies isn't very good so it takes them longer to get around. Once you're out of their direct line of sight they normally stop running.

2. (recommended) Run into a building that has a large main room or a secondary entrance/exit. Zombies have to walk inside buildings so it's pretty easy to lose them if you find a good location. I say to find a main large room in a building because you can lure the zombie(s) in and just run around them. Don't run extremely close though because they can still hit you. They have to walk out of the building to chase you and by they time they're out you'll be long gone.



As for looting. Try to stay away from the 2 big cities until you have a gun. If you play with a friendly group then have someone with a sniper rifle in the hills covering you and warning you when trouble is near.

I usually run in a 3 man team and I'll have the other 2 guys covering me from 2 different angles outside of the village. I've actually had someone try to hold me up while in the crosshairs of my teammate lol. I opened the voice chat and also typed in the direct chat and told the mugger that he should just run away and nothing bad will happen. He thought he had the upper hand until my teammate shot him hah. He respawned and said it was a cheap shot lol I think I gave him a fair enough warning

People will just shoot you out of no where just for sport, which is annoying, but that's just part of the game. You always have to be a little cautious when playing DayZ.


Anyone that wants to play with us I'll try to help you out as much as I can. I have some extra guns, ammo, food, drinks, meds, etc. that you can have. I even fixed up a bus that you can have, the thing drives like a tank lol. You can store a ton of gear in it so that's always beneficial. The only downside is that it's so big that it's difficult to hide. You'd have to have a pretty good place to hide it in order for it not to get stolen. Or you can always hide it in what you think is a good place, shoot out a tire, then when you're in town just be sure to find a tire and put it in your pack for when you get back to the bus. I like having a tent specificlly for car parts and helicopter parts. Yes, you can fly helicopters as well but they are extremely rare..... we have one at least I think we still do, I'm not sure it my teammates crashed it

I tried Day Z Multiple times, but every time I'd play something stupid would happen like I'd be teleported to an area where an admin is as soon as I login and I instantly get killed etc.

I'd be willing to give it another chance I guess..

Does anyone play War Z?

The game lacks content but the graphics and engine are way better than Day Z's

Not sure if serious. War Z is horrible, the game got removed from steam because they lied about the game description, and they faked screenshots and much more. Game is full with cheaters also, so yeah just wait for the standalone Day Z game, which will be _awesome_ compared to Day Z.

Yeah, it didn't start getting really fun until I started running with a group. Much less stressful lol.

Getting teleported to an area and then killed is a hacker, not an admin.

I've never played War Z but I've never really heard anything great about it.

Jumped on to see if my team was playing and noticed someone needed a main rotor for their helicopter. I just so happened to have an extra so I ran to a random tent where I had stored it so it wouldn't despawn. Picked up the rotor and ran for a while. When I was about 5 minutes away from the guy who needed it.... I got shot in the back by a random player lol.

I would have just shot him but I had about 10 zombies chasing me. I serpentined like a champ for about 200 yards though This guy couldn't hit anything and had a high powered automatic rifle haha.

When I respawned on the shore I asked who shot me and a guy named "Sun" said he killed me. I asked him why did he shoot me in the back, and he said "I was looking for an item". lmao, I told him he could have just asked and I probably would have given it to him if I had an extra... he stopped talking for the rest of the time I was on the server lol.


Why am I posting this? Because a hero player saw my chat messages while I was trying to help out this other random guy and knew I wasn't a bandit. He teamed up with me for a bit because I had been running back to my body for the last 15 minutes and my drink meter was low. He came up and gave me some food and drink, then shot a bandit in the face for me because I didn't have a gun lol

Now I have another elite player on our team, maybe 2 if the random player I was trying to help likes my team members. I didn't get to play with the hero long because he had to go to work and I was logging off because after I ran to my body I noticed that the guy who killed me had clicked "hide body" so all my gear was gone... even the main rotor


So after trying to help out a complete stranger I may now have a 4 - 5 person team on a server

Which mod do you guys play?

I'm a huge fan of zombie movies and just about anything zombie. Been following DayZ updates and was planning on jumping on it once the standalone came out. I read that people just headshot anyone that they see come into range, so that kind of discouraged me from getting into it. I might consider giving it a shot if there are enough people from here interested.

Is it true you start from scratch if your character dies in the game?

We just play the normal DayZ. I have origins downloaded but my roommate plays that on the same account so I don't want to overlap our loot and gameplay. I also don't want to get shot on his game and lose his gear lol.

yeah, some people will shoot on sight. That's why it's always good to run with a group.

You start with nothing at the very beginning but you can set up a tent and store gear in it. Once you get killed you'll start with a drink, a flashlight, and a bandage (depending on the servers settings)... and that's it. But you can run to your tent if you know the area. You'll spawn on the coast line so try to figure out where a good place to put your tent could be. Be sure to place it in the woods a little ways, maybe a 5 minute run north of whichever type of landmark you use.


Oh, and don't mark where it's at on your map because then everyone will see it. I lost a HumV that way lol.

Everyone can see what you mark on the map?! Seriously?! That would explain a lot....

haha yeah Never mark anything on your map. You can set gps locations so you know how far your destination is. But if you mark an X on the map everyone can see it haha.
