Database Help

Hello BHW. I recently found an old blog of mine was still making a little income.

The problem is that the blog is on a free hosting server, and i want to move the entire thing to my hostgator account.

I know it has something to do with the databases and from what ive read nothing seems to be helping me

do any of you know how to accomplish this?

The fastest thing is to buy a freelance service to move the blog to other hosting if you don't know the technical aspects dealing with hosting, like moving the files, database, nameserver etc.

What is the free blog service? Blogger etc.. And what type of blog are you switching to?

Use wordpress and plugins this can help if you don't have a way to connect to the database on the free server.

It's really simple if you know a few of the technical details.

In short:

1. Move the files to the new server.
2. Export the MySQL database via phpmyadmin.
3. Import the database on the new server.
4. Update the wp_config.php file if necessary to mirror the database changes.
5. There are a few tables you need to edit in the MySQL databases.
6. Now check if there's anything broken on your website, namely images, plugins, and the theme.

If it's a WP Blog an easy way is BackupBuddy. It's easy and migrates a complete WP install with no technical knowledge required.

Just go to your C-Panel or whatever and copy the stuff over to Hostgator. Hostgator is a great service and very reliable.

If this doesn't work search on google for some tactics or search the forum. You will find something. Just that Google results will be more biosed or the actual website you want help with coming up.

I'm not sure if your free hosting provides CPanel and my guess it doesn't, but 1 thing for sure, you have ftp connection. Download the script via ftp, and for database, you can read and export it via php to do a backup.
This tiny php has to be created.
