Data recovery from Mac under Windows

I don't know if I can post this question here but since almost anything can be posted here, I would love if someone can help me out of this unrelated subject.

Well, I have an HDD drive that I have been using with my Macbook (OS journaled), after that I removed that drive and plug it in a windows, then formatted it (NTFS) and installed windows 10 on it. After a period of use I wanted to recover some files such images and docs using a data recovery software from that drive. Do I can recover files that were copied when I was using the drive on macbook under windows or I need to to put it on mac again to recover that data?

Try recuva they may have a solution for you.
I wouldn’t format it back yet. Contact them directly.

I installed Recuva under Windows 10 and it recovered too many files but I can't find files that were copied under the use of the HDD under mackintosh system. I found files that were removed 8 years ago even after the HDD was used with mac.

Man i hate to be the bearer of bad news here. Working in the IT industry for over 20 years you see some miraculous recoveries using recovery software and tools. In your case, i can tell you now, the chance of recovering usable data from the hard drive is extremely slim to none. The fact you have formatted the drive from a UNIX partition to NTFS and then proceeded to write a copy of Windows on top makes the recovery process unlikely to be successful. If you do recover any files they will most likely be so corrupt that the data you recover wont be readable.

Thank you for your reply. I can't recover data even if I put the HDD on a mac again and I install OSX on it, then install a data recovery program. Did when I formatted using NTFS I wiped all data under HFS+ partition?

@sucrey Have you reached out to Recuvva directly? They should have email/live chat support to help with the concern. If they cant help ask if they know of a app that would.

Go to a local IT company (this is difficult to find a good one). Pay the $40-80 for them to try if its worth it.

I used Recuva and Easeus Data Recovery with no luck. Actually, I just knew that the drive was wiped using DBAN and DoD method (7 passes) lol!
Now data is lost unfortunately !
