dashed domains

I was wondering would it be useful to buy similar domain names of popular websites like google , facebook but all dashed like g-o-o-g-l-e.com f-a-c-e-b-o-o-k.com , i have looked at some and found original websites leak traffic to them by search engines . How does google count those dashes in search . Feedback please

First of all, they're called "hyphenated." Second of all, the right hyphenated domains can have some value. For example, s-e-o.com would be a pretty valuable domain name. B-u-y.com, f-r-e-e.com, c-a-r-s.com, etc. all have some value. However, you're not going to get any leaked traffic and in general, unless you know what you're doing, you'll probably just buy a bunch of worthless domains.

I applaud your creativity, but buying w-a-l-m-a-r-t.com is not going to make your site appear when people search for "walmart," no more than any other EMD with thin content and crappy backlinks. It might work on a very low competition keyword though. If you'd like to prove us wrong, why not buy one of those domains, do some link building, and post your results as a case study?

After more research it appears that using hyphens in a domain gives some seo penalty within search engines as being considered spam domains , and not often that you find a hyphenated domain appearing in top google search results . So i guess its a bad strategy unless you urgently need this hyphen in your domain.

you better off find some famous brands keyboard-typo domains like: facebok, faecbook, facebool etc. instead of that hyphenated ones. The keyboard-typo types are likely to generate more traffic than the hyphenated.

There are many legit business sites with hypenated domains, if this is so, then G screw this up for them.

Terrible idea.

Don't waste your time/money.

Typos can work with a redirect, but most of them are taken for popular sites.

yep, agreed with others, dont waste your time buying h-y-p-h-e-n-a-t-e-d, I dont think it will leak some traffic.

If you want to have some free traffic, try some typo domains.

but some domains with hypen are useful too. imagine if you have a business like "pen island" the best way to buy a domain is with hypen like pen-island, dont buy penisland.
