Dangers of using 301s?

Cutting a long story short... I SB & Xrumer blasted my money sites like an idiot, not even close to the top 100 in Google anymore and decided to buy another EMD, modify the content and start from scratch with practically the exact same thing, this time using more intelligent SEO methods.

If I 301 from my old blasted domain to my new domain, am I in danger of screwing up the rankings on that? Im not entirely sure how the big G sees 301's.

I haven't ever been able to find definitive information on how one domain is affected by another that has been penalized through a redirect. I have read in some threads on SEOMoz and WF that say yes this is bad but there is no solid proof. Since we know from Google that a site passes on authority (PR) then it only makes sense that it would pass on negative attributes as well. After all why would Google pay attention to positive ranking factors and ignore negative ones? That being said I still have no proof of that.

If you are starting from scratch anyway, it would probably be wise to play it safe and just not redirect the site or at least 302 redirect it if it is providing some volume of traffic. If the traffic is minimal then I would just let it die.

Actually yeah. That helped alot. I foolishly didn't think of using a 302 instead. I'll just do that and not risk it. Thanks alot bud
