I've fixed my on page SEO, it wasn't up to scratch. Keyword density was too high.

I'm seeing a bit of a g dance, is that common when fixing up on-page seo?

How long does it take (from recent 2015 results) for the page to settle again?

Yes, it's common. Give it 2-4 weeks and the dance should stop.

One thing you would have added here is, if the dance was or is positive or negative?

But from experience, dancing is always sure when you tried changing around SEO on page settings, but if you know what you're doing, then no need to worry, result would eventually get better.

However, one way i used in tackling issues like this, is adding more long detailed and useful posts and do some insightful link inner link building to the homepage, it always helps.

Google dance is normal after you do some on page SEO (or even update your post) or build new links, if you've done it right after a few days you should at least get back to your previous position or better. If not, it is telling you that your on page SEO wasn't good enough or the links weren't too strong.

P.S. Don't get caught up in keyword density thing. There are some principles that you have to follow, like interesting headline with your keyword in your H1 or H2 depending how your post is structured. I used to pay attention to it, but now I just write like I would speak to a person not thinking about the keyword(s) and allow it to flow naturally. Do that and you'll be fine. And when I outsource some of my articles, I tell them, just write about the topic don't worry about anything else like keywords. I remember once I hired a talented and knowledgeable writer and told her that the keyword density must be around 2-3%. It was a total disaster, when I asked her to rewrite the article forgetting the keyword it worked. The point is, just write like you would speak to a person. Stuffing keywords here and there for the sake of doing it won't work.

Thanks all.

I had a kw that was going ok for a pretty profitable kw, was slowly climbing, got up to mid 50's and then stopped climbing. I looked at the article, was a bit short so I thought I'd increase the word count by 500 words. Got it outsourced, didn't check over the article as close as I should before adding it to the page and it was stuffed with keywords and then the kw dropped to about 90. It stayed there for a week until I fixed the keyword density. It then shot up back to 60, then the following day dropped to 99 and is now at 88.

Dance is common but more with backlinks. Allow some time for it to settle but keep working towards building social presence as well as getting good quality backlinks.

Keep us posted how it goes.

Had a full recovery and is going better than ever. I've given it a couple of weeks to make sure that the high ranking has remained stable.

When the recovery happened it happened overnight. I went from 90's to 40's overnight. It's as if I was being punished for about 4 weeks for changing the on-page SEO. It must have flagged some sort of an over-optimization tool so I was punished.

Pretty typical, give it a little time.

Yes, It's common. Follow up your competitors. What they actually are doing?

Nobody can't say that, how many days will be needed? You don't need to give concern with it. Already some OP said about that.
