This thread is going to be a weekly collection of my attempts to finish building out two sites in semi-competitive niches, both about 7 months old and getting a bit of traffic.
I’ve been mulling these projects over the past several months, turning them over and over and now that I have a bit more time I want to make the most of it.
Niche #1 is a high ticket product. Very few people sell it, of the ones that do, they don’t know how to market very well, ie the field is wide open for someone that is motivated. The biggest site in the niche is shit slow and hasn’t been updated in a couple years.
When I first made it, I threw up 30,000 or so words up worth of pieces, and just let it age until now, drip feeding a few additional smaller things and a handful of videos on Youtube. I have an expert I consult with on the broader industry and more specific things and it yields some great starting points research wise for things that people want to read. I’ve helped him make a few sales in the industry and he’s taken some of the lessons we figured out together back to his company.
This site will be probably a two to five year project depending on the laws in the industry. It’s going to be monetized by selling ad space and selling leads generated. Eventually, I anticipate selling it to either the company he works for since I already have an in, or will sell it myself.
Site #2 is branded like the first site but totally different industry and also has about 20k words on it thats been aging. This industry is far more competitive, and this site will exclusively be monetized by selling the leads, at least for now.
I’ve got some cash, some time, and a whole lotta knowledge of the industries, plus some dedicated helpers. I figure I’ll update this periodically with how it goes.
I’m going to be getting traffic from a mix of PPC, outreach, and SEO.
Why the mix? I want fast traffic, I want long term-ish traffic, and I want bursts as well. I have someone who has been very successful with PPC in difficult niches who sees alot of opportunity, I told him he can have a piece.
If this all works out, it’ll be a good mix and I already have mapped out an idea of how I want to provide value to my lists as they come. I started building a group for each of the two niches and they’re growing (5-10 members a day) but nothing great yet, and I have two guys in each I know acting as moderators so no bullshit flies.
I’ve just been kind of haphazardly doing this just to take action but now I want to see what these babies can do.
If they work, then good. If not, I don’t care, but I’d be very surprised.
It will initially be sporadic and then I’ll see how it goes.
