Current State 2014 -> .Net Domain Is Better Than .COM Domain?

Services offered globally in the long-term but starting with the UK - a new internet marketing service company.

I have the problem that the .COM domain I like to have is already taken. Now I am thinking whether I should get a .NET domain instead.

I like my website to rank high, but I am not sure if I would make a loss with the NET domain. Google values .net domain less? Would clients see it negatively?

In my opinion .com's have the value cause of their price, reselling price. LLL.com domain with good letters you can sell for $xx,xxx, but LLL.net you can buy for $10. Having .net won;t keep you away from page one if you have great content combined with killer seo.
