CTR definitely played a major role previously. I tested it before a year. But not sure how it is working right now.

You can buy CTR from microworkers sites. It's better to get CTR for multiple variations of the keyword to make it look natural.

CTR manipulation can go either way depending on whom you buy from
i am using crowdsearch and searchseo for while both are affordable and working properly. there are many more solutions in the market like serpclix , ctrbot etc but it was my personal choice because of package and complexity of their system. Else choice is totally your.
i tried microworkers and picoworkers but there are two issues, first they dont approve adult or gambling sites second they take good amount of time to run which doen't work in my case. But yes, you can use them for ctr manipulation.

I think that nowadays, it also takes into account your search history.
if you search for porn then for quiet pillows,, then google knows something is wrong.

With that said, this role has to be considered in light of another main feature: bounce rate.
Improving the click-through rate of your website's surf results doesn't automatically mean higher rankings.
You have to pay attention to what happens after the click.
As expected, Google is taking a holistic view and not just focusing on one factor.
It's all about the user experience, so mimicking a great user experience by terminating searches and reducing bounce rates can improve your search rankings better than other methods.

But won't that mess up the demographic allocation by Google somehow since most people from microworker sites are third world countries?
Same issue faced by me even 50$ still stuck in microworkers, in intial days picoworkers used to approve my adult task if i bid higger then 0.20$ but now its useless.
