CSS GRID + HTML5

Some years back, I have read about the power of combining CSS GRID with pure HTML5.

CSS-GRID is supposed to be super straightforward, hugely simplifies codes, hyper lightweight, easy to code etc - the perfect ingredient for a great user-experience (super fast loading), a dream-come-true for the coder and a huge PLUS for SEO.

I wonder if anyone has experience with building on CSS-GRID and whether CSS-GRID has lived up to the hype.
