What changes have been made to the policy on cryptocurrency advertising?
The previous cryptocurrency ads policy allowed only cryptocurrency exchanges and/or cryptocurrency wallet services provided by a public company that is listed on a major stock market to be able to target permitted countries subject to local laws.
There have been significant developments in the cryptocurrency space since the last policy revision and countries have adopted different regulatory measures depending upon the nature, function, and definition of cryptocurrency.
The revised cryptocurrency policy aims to ensure advertising complies with updated country specific legal requirements.
This means that advertisers will have to comply with the country specific license / registration requirements for each of the countries they plan to target.
What are the restrictions?
Prohibited
Restricted (ALLOWED)
Which countries can advertisers target with cryptocurrency ads?
Advertisers will be able to target one or more of the following 12 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and USA. We’ll be reviewing the legal landscape and updating the policy for 15 EMEA countries within the first half of 2022.
What is the Policy on NFTs?
NFT's fall under our Financial Policy, and we launched a new global policy to permit certain NFT ads, which took effect October 25, 2021.
NFT sales, NFT marketplaces and Products or services that facilitate the use of NFTs (e.g. minting, management tools, engines) are allowed but regulated. This will need to go through a certification and approval process on my end.
Content promoting games where NFTs or cryptocurrency tokens can be won or earned are prohibited.
Looks like these companies are slowly incorporating the use of paid ads on their platforms, you just gotta work your way around the barrier.
