Are SAAS solutions still profitable?
Is it hard to sell them?
Especially for email marketing and automation for specific niches like housing industry and mining etc?
What are your opinions if anyone is into SAAS or crm software Industry?

To build something of quality it is going to be time consuming and costly... we actually started a project like that near the end of 2013 and ended up killing it because of the resources it was taking up to get going compared to what I saw as the return from the effort and money.

Also, there are some pretty solid ones out there so if you are going to go that route you are going to have some legitimate competition.

Now, if you specialize like you are saying there might be an opportunity as long as you can take the process and apply it to several industries by just changing the software a bit to be targeted to them specifically but you'll be doing a fair amount of marketing so if you are not a marketer you'll want to develop a relationship with one.

Thanks for your reply,Yea i am
Thinking about hiring some marketers and sales agents to sell the software. And yes I am building for a specific niche for example only for mining companies, real estate etc.
Is there any opportunity left?
I might be optimizing the current softwares made by others.

I'm sure there is opportunity out there - I am of the mindset that there is no such thing as total saturation in almost any service or product as there is almost always an aspect of things that you can corner.

I don't know that you can build something up to be able to exit with a 7 figure check but I'm sure there is opportunity there.

How much money you have invested in the software?
Did you got any profit while you were running it?
Where exactly your money was going the most(expense)?

The money I spent was payment to my developer and it was just under 10K if I remember correctly... it was some time back so I'm fuzzy on the details.

We never went live as the more I spent the more I saw I would have to spend and to get any kind of return that would satisfy me would have taken ages so I cut my losses.

Except developer( because I can build it by myself) what exactly you find so hard in this business model?
I personally only want to sell to couple of thousand people as it will be on subscription based.Money will be recurring.

I can also cut costs by hiring cheap developers as i did it couple of times.
So the expenses were the only problem you were facing?

The developer costs (he is a business partner and we allocated part of his income to the software) were a little different than an outsource thing as I would never outsource the development of a tool that I saw as a long term service. In fact we just developed a content creation tool that is pretty solid that cost more than that based on the allocation of expenses but I can use that in a lot of applications.

You never know if the guy is going to be around a year from now when updates are needed, something breaks etc. The ice is just too thin there for me to be comfortable.

We bought a SaaS back in 2011 that was written in Ruby and my partner was not all that familiar with Ruby so we had an outsource guy that we used who was fine but my partner spent the required time to learn Ruby so that we would not be stuck should there have been an issue with the outsourcer.

I don't see a huge market with this idea but I can certainly see a couple thousand subscribers after development and spending on marketing after a couple of years so if that is your vision I think you would be fine.

Thank you for your reply
Yes after I get around 4000 subscribers i would start building softwares SAAS and applications for other niches too
So i think it is scalable, i won't be sticking to single niche
I know a person near my area created literally a super basic offline order management and printing software for restaurants and he is already making in millions!,He is selling to rich local restaurants , Just like hubspot for example.
I just personally find selling developed software is Better and easy to do as compare to developing Softwares for clients.
