I was able to rank sites easily a year ago but am having lots of trouble with new sites.

This is what I've been doing with brand new sites (no redirects).

week 1:

build site, 8 pages. over 2500 words in total. KW around 2% plus some variation (i.e. chicago plumbers, chicago plumbing company, plumbers chicago) .
I put a video on the homepage (a few images), make sure there's 500 words of content home page. Do a meta title, i.e. "Chicago plumbers - paligap 351 plumbing - plumbing company", and meta description. Also h1 with keyword.

week 2:

Order diversity of links that don't include my main keywords. I send all variety of links to every inner page and home page. Just generic anchors.

week 3:

Social signals + about 20 posts on existing ******** web 2.0s which have already been indexed and have pr.

week 4:

Order sape type service. all, say, 200 links directed at my home page. 4 of my main keywords, plus naked and brand.

week 5:

Use blog net, maybe 20 posts unique content on reputable members blog network.

Then every month after:
10 web 2.0 creations, keep subsciption for sape links, social signals, one blog post to my site.

I used to rank doing this. Now it's hard. Any advice about what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you bhw

Good plan but there is issue in your week 4 plan, not sure if you are active here or not, but look like you missed lot of recent Sape threads where users posted how their site got dropped in rankings after using Sape links, you may want to check these threads...

instead of ordering SAPE links create a list of the blogs in your targeted area and pay them for a guest post about your subject and to host a homepage link :) ... it's basically the same thing but because you're targeting standalone blogs you won't be penalized

Week 4 is pulling you back from climbing to top page. Keep away from any SAPE related links if you are trying to build a authority site.

And do check your on page seo . There are a lot of free tools for this Google it .
If its on Wodpress install yoast seo plugin.
And yes avoid Sape links .

From what I have learned after all these years is that 1 authority link is times better than 1000 links from low quality sites.

I ranked lots of website's using this method. One dif. i use 1500+ unique quality content on main page.

Untill a few weeks ago this work like a charm for me, although last 2 weeks it did not work anymore, you want to now why? check your week 4, sape is mostly dead.!!!

Lol, it seems nobody who used Russian networks were spared. It's funny lately reading the sellers defending their services (seems everyone got a wmt message). One seller even said, "You shouldn't have been using these links on a website that matters". I'm thinking, if I'm paying $400 a month for some links, that website must matter quite a bit to me. It would have been nice for the sales thread to have said to only use it on sites that mean nothing to you.

I just took a look at about 40 blog network posts I ordered in the past 4 months. Crawlers disabled didn't do a thing. Every blog has been deindexed, many of the sites already down. And that was from one of the most reputable guys around here. Oh well.

I'm doing everything I can to avoid my own private blog network, but I guess I have to stop being lazy and just do it, if I want to have a future income.

They expect you to read between the lines

Some SAPE style links have been taken down. I doubt it's most, it's just some of the providers seem to have been infiltrated and their links exposed. I still have a site ranking and banking with SAPE links, though had other sites hit (and un-natural linking notices saying I was using a linking service) from SAPE a couple of months ago.
Good providers tell you SAPE is not a permanent solution when you buy. The ones I use say openly and clearly that they know full well that Google will "out" them one day and that the collateral damage having them on your site OR EVEN USED AS FIRST TIER! may take many months to recover from. Google slap discovered link network users silly. Took 18 months for a site I used BMR on back a couple of years ago to recover even AFTER BMR removed all the links. The site was tainted.

But who knows.

Most importantly You Don't Give Enough Information To Give A Proper Response

Most importantly what's your niche cometition like?
Ranking is relative. Shit sites rank in shit niches, you need to be better where the cometition is better.
Sometimes you just need to be the "least shit" of a bad bunch. Other times you need to be A1+ at everything to even stand a chance. Depends on your competition.
Also the details you give ref links just isn't enough to make an informed response. What were the "diversity of links" Where they contextual? Did they have PR, were a decent percentage of them D0fol0w? Did you get them all indexed? Were they on a mixed set of platforms?
It might be SAPE as some have said, but it more than likely isn't (yet - it will be one day though)

Scritty

If you lose the links, your rankings drop too.
Besides that, any unnatural form of building links is unhealthy and shows shortsightedness.
