If I've written 100 good articles, would adding 70-100 more articles(in the same niche) each having only 500 words make sense for the sake of creating topical authority(by interlinking)?

adding more content is always a good idea, but I don't think that this means topical authority.

I will be honest, I am not 100% certain what topical authority is and if I get it wrong feel free to correct me (anyone, I don't care who does it), but... topical authority means being the most popular, or one of the most popular websites in your niche. In other words, being an authority in the topic of your website and this authority comes with time, lots of strong references (backlinks) from other sites in your niche, as well as being popular on social media.

Length of each piece should be similar to what is working on the first page. Not just fix it to a certain amount like a robot.

Cover wide arrange of typically related keywords and be careful not to cannibalize.

People usually just go for obvious, very closely related ones but if you want to deeply cover the topic, you'll need to cover keywords that seem completely off at first but actually are related when looked closely.

Google doesn't pay much attention to the domain name
Topical relevance is what helps them decipher your area of expertise or queries you're trying to solve.

You might want to take a look at this

It depends on what those existing 100 articles are talking about and whether they're targeting low-competition, highly relevant niche keywords.

If you're just posting 100 articles that you think are “good,” it’s anybody’s guess if you will build up enough domain authority.

I would suggest that you run an audit on the URLs of your existing content using tools like Ahrefs or Semrush and see what kind of keywords they rank for or are related to.

Next, reoptimize each of those 100 articles to a better target keyword, as recommended by those SEO tools that I just mentioned.

How do you do this?

Well, you can do this by guessing, or you can use a tool like Surfer SEO.

What you do is you take the existing article, plug it into Surfer SEO, and see if the keywords on the right side are turned green.

Then, tweak your existing text—maybe extend it, lengthen it, add more images, create more headings—and do what you need to do to get all those indicators on the right side to turn green.

That's how I would do this.

I've done this before for previous projects, and let me tell you: for keyword targets that have manageable levels of competition, I've been able to rank them quite high in a fairly short period of time.

Also, the technique that I outlined above also works well if your site has been trapped in the Google sandbox for more than eight months.
