Creating a profitable website. One quick question.

In the last few weeks I have successfully been persuaded to instead of auto blogging, make my own unique sites. I have read thread after thread about sites and owners simply writing 1-5 articles to start it up.

I was wondering.. what are these sites like? Are they just blog type layouts with one main page and archives? Or are they more involved?

This will be for Adsense.
