Creating a new forum (affiliate)

Hi fellow members,

Im looking to get into affiliate business and one idea in my mind is to create a forum to attract people to visit it. Idea is to monetize it by affiliate deals.

After researching a bit, I saw different answers to my question:

1. is it easy (same easy as usual blog/website) to rank a forum?
   
2. What should I take into consideration if creating the forum with phpBB software? I saw someone saying that he removed signatures, profile pictures, etc for the forum to look better for search engines
3. Should I also create a regular frontpage for the domain that includes blog-style posts? And then the forum on forum.domain.com address for example.
4. What else should I know or study, and from where?

1. Yes it is not really different from normal pages. Especially if you have some active users which post regular on the forum. Lots of user based content.
2. Not sure what works best here.
3. Is possible and maybe interesting if you want to gain organic traffic for new members.
4. Just start and see what you need to learn instead of overthinking this part

1. I would imagine yes and no. Yes, the same principle of ranking an individual page, but the magic sauce is getting people to create your (hopefully high quality) content for you instead of creating all content yourself.
2. No idea.
3. Yeah why not, could probably do it a few different ways.
4. growth hacking, community management, the principles of crowd incentivization

If i do regular page and forum separatedly, is it better SEO wise to do the forum as subdomain or subfolder domain.com/forum?

Is this idea good or could it be better:
Make blog posts/articles on main domain (domain.com)
Start thread for discussion in subfolder/subdomain forum pointing to the article.

You've got to expect that asking about how to launch a forum on a forum will most likely hit deaf ears.
