Crazy situation--could use bhw's help with this one!

Ok, so I have a friend who is kind of a big deal....like son of a president big deal. The problem is that a blogger has been dragging his father through the mud for years now, which is par for the course when it comes to politics; however, the blogger posted a photo of my friend's whole family...even alt-tagged it as '(family surname) children' with a nasty caption that makes it look like the children are the enemy of all that is right...it is a pretty weird thing to do.

Anyway, his father actually helped put a stop to the genocide in Rwanda, and my friend studied at West Point. The blogger, who is from Uganda, hates his father and is doing all that he can to topple his government...it is crazy. Anyway, I don't know the father, but apparently they've tried everything to remove the photo because it features his kids, and I offered to help my friend by trying to rank other photos, but I'm having no success either. I'm tempted to test out loic, (well, not really, because I don't want to go to prison), but I'm wondering if anyone here has a suggestion. Here's the page in question, what do you guys think would be the best approach?

I think that DoS or DDoS is way to low and childish.

Just rank photos or send a DMCA to that blog.
 
#1 stay away from all the "negative SEO"
#2 you cant really take down blogger or do anything about it BUT... you can build your own resources and try squeeze his post down the line and put out of the ranks by replacing SERP's with your posts. That is only viable solution (in my opinion). It is not fast, but it will work. Depending on your or your friends budget, you can order good press releases, couple decent blog posts and just build links to them.

Hope it at least gives you general idea how to handle this situation.

+1 to DMCA - took down my friends site in days...
 
That's a tough one maybe try to report it to Wordpress, but don't DDOS - especially Wordpress.com your not going to take that down on your own and even if you could it wouldn't be for very long so it's pointless.
 
I think that sending a DMCA and a report to wordpress both at the same time will be way more than enough to take that whole blog down.

Do dmca's work outside of the USA? I know next to nothing about African law.
 
I dont think you will have any joy on a dmca. The photo is a public picture of a public figure with his family in public, it's not a private moment snapped surrepticiously.

Page has been up since 2010 ? I'm afraid the damage is done.

Kagame had tonnes of press out there about him, your best bet is to pick the twenty strongest pieces and try to get them ranking above.

Even if the person is a public figure, the photo could be copyrighted.
 
I have no idea what their budget is, but it sounds like a lot of work to take on and I'm no orm guru. The fact that he is a public figure, as duffers pointed out, may be one reason why they can't get it removed...plus it is a two year old post. I wouldn't want photos of my kids posted either, especially in this context...sometimes the online world sucks.

Same thing, I think DMCA is worth a shot but on a serious note, you need to bury those links and replace with yours. I have a friend who is in all this viral crazy marketing shit, not a cheap guy, but he managed to get plastic surgeon *name* deaths replaced with actual nice posts.... do I have to tell what that's worth in $

And then see if you can prove they broke TOS in one way or another. I didn't look at their site much but if you can classify it as a hate site or prove they used a copyrighted image on it for example you might be able to get WP to take it down.

Then again maybe they would just remove the part of the content that is infringing on their TOS.
 
Just in from a wp mod...the photo remains, of course...I would be furious if someone did this to my kids and even had the nerve to alt tag it 'Christianbed children'...I'd be ready to curb this fool, American History X style...anyway, fwiw

As suggested by many members , you should create other ressources in order to outrank the other wordpress blog.

The best way to hide a dead body is to push it to google's 2nd page serp.
 
Im sure his father has the money, know how and the contacts
to EXECUTE a safe ending to this matter.
Although this is what the Internet is here for, people for good or bad reasons can air their
views, that might be stifled by an oppressive regime.

But if he is paying you well, then I would create as many as it took blogs, web pages and outrank it, till
it slips out of view, as someone has said before this also does not look like a hidden camera snap from 400yds
the family were on full public view and seem only to want the blog taken down because they dont agree with
it, once again oppressive behavior.

But as your username implies, being a christian you will know what to do, or will be guided
by a higher power .....;)
