I went to highschool with him. Drives around in a new audi.

edit:

While most high school students work as baggers, busers, and ice cream scoopers for a little over minimum wage, Ryan Silverthorn, sophomore, is the CEO of his own company, Silverthorn Networks, Inc.

How does a 16 year old end up making $78,000 a year?

?It all started with $500 and an idea,? Silverthorn said.

After building a website for a club, Silverthorn decided to make some for himself. He searched ?building websites? and eventually came across webhosting. Webhosting is a business that provides the software, servers, and support to create and maintain a website. Twenty websites later, Silverthorn decided to try out the webhosting business.

In Feb. 2006, Silverthorn created GARA Web hosting, a reseller for Snappy Communications. A reseller uses the servers and support of the company it is selling for and only makes a profit in the price difference between the wholesale price the company sets and retail price that the reseller sets. Resellers are basically used as a means of advertising for the companies that employ them.

?To get started I pulled $500 out of my bank account to buy software and purchased ad space on Google, Facebook, and Yahoo,? Silverthorn said. ?After a month or two [the sales] started coming.?

Early on in Silverthorn?s freshmen year, he decided that he wanted to make more than the 10 percent he was making off domain sales and the 35 percent he was making off hosting sales while being a reseller. With the profits from his company, Silverthorn bought Dell Outlet servers online about every three months until he had 15 of them.

?I said ?I can?t take it anymore,? so I bought a C-Panel which is software that runs hosting, and I bought servers from the Dell Outlet,? Silverthorn said. ?Now I could resell the plans without having to pay [Snappy Communications].? Silverthorn?s 15 servers are co-located at a Liquidweb building in Lansing, MI. Co-location is when rack space is rented out for the servers that are necessary for the webhosting business.

?When the Dell servers were shipped in from Texas, I went to Liquidweb in Lansing and put the servers there because I wanted specific settings set up,? Silverthorn said. ?I am also renting servers in Freemont, CA and Birkshire, London in the United Kingdom.?

Only 80k . Hope he has other businesses. I'd cut my wrist

Very motivational. Glad to hear of his success, especially at such a young age.

It is not that much. I am at highschool too, and just started to make around 400-1000k daily.
Last year I earned around 10k. This year I promised to me I will make 100k at least.

hope not a unofficial advertisement (to by ad space- PPC) by those giant search engines :p

hats off for those teenagers :)

You realise you've just told everyone you make peanuts with that comment?

Anyone who actually makes money realises how much hard work goes in and so wouldn't laugh off $80k.

The type of people who laugh off $80k are the kids who dream about being multi millionaires and think it's as easy as pushing a button.

$80k is a lot of money for anyone never mind a 16 year old. There's a reason most billionaires are very tight with their money. You'll probably never understand that reason though.

I'll take the $80K since I can live very comfortably with $40K a year where I live. =)

I Completely agree with you...I'm just making something like 700$ a month right now. I joined this site 6 months ago and it took me a while to understand how all these things work and I earned my 1st $ in November. I felt so happy that I bought myself an iPhone 4 for this christmas. It's very difficult to even earn 1$ and the person who earns that money knows the importance of every single $.

Now I'm aiming for 1k a month. Hope so I reach my target by next month.

Cheers,

Thank you BHW!!!

haha loving the people getting called out ;).

80k a year is impressive, especially for a highschooler.

The thing to note here is that he's actually gone out and done something.

Sure 80k isn't a huge amount of money in and of itself, but the potential this kid has will be astronomical when he continues to learn and expand his business. If he re-invests even a small fraction of that, he can expect another huge jump from 80k to 160k, then the rest is history.

I'm sure any hosting company would love to have him on board, but I doubt that he's the type of person who would settle for anything less than CEO.

I hope you're being sarcastic. Most people would be happy making 80k. Now add the fact that this kid is 16, still in high school, and he makes that much being his own boss instead of working for someone else.

I think that's pretty damn impressive. While most kids his age are bagging groceries or cookin fries, he's running his own business and making more than most adults do that slave away for 40+ hours per week at a j.o.b

man give the kid some credit...he's only 16 and making 80k a year...Yeah it may not be as much as some people on here but it sure is alot more than alot of people make... Plus like I said he is 16...if your making 80k a year when ur 16 your setting yourself up in the future for more success for sure.

A little tip for you. The next time you're going to try and play the big shot earner you might want to get your basic numbers right.

400-1000k daily? So you're going to make $400 to $1mil daily?

So let's forgive that one and pretend you meant $400-$1000 or $400-$1k daily.

So that's going to be $100k is it? Hm.

$400/day = $146k/yr
$1000/day = $365k/yr

Not $100k.

Nice try though.

You'd actually have more of a chance of making that if you were honest that you make nothing and instead tried to learn to make money from some of the very rich people who use this forum.
Oh God. Sorry I was so tired, after 2 days without sleeping. I meant, 400$ to 1k$. Lol, I am not that stupid to said I earn 1000k a day. My mistake.
