Crazy but true method to spice up your content writing

Somewhat relatedly, I switched to dvorak half a year ago hoping to see long-term gain. so far, none. Well, my fingers do move a bit less. Qwerty was so second nature that I still have a bit of trouble typing without glancing at the keys.

I used to do that and you are exactly right.

I actually make more mistakes when i look at my keyboard than when i looks at my screen when typing :? Or maybe its just that i notice them faster :?

i try to tyoe on keyboard with closed eye now haaahahaha

Dragon can only do 25-30 wpm. That's VERY slow. I can do 120 comfortably or 140-150 for short bursts up to an hour. Most can learn to touch type to 60-80 wpm with only a couple of months practice.

Well you might be some kind of superhuman typist but the rest of us mere mortals try to work smarter not harder. I am an accurate 90 wpm touch typist but I can conclusively say that Dragon is not necessarily faster for data entry but it is much easier and less error prone than typing and ultimately more productive. Because:

* on a decent computer Dragon does in fact dictate a shit load faster than my 90 wpm typing - in fact it should be dictating in real time. If it's only going 30-40 wpm then your computer sucks or something else in your setup is wrong. I've been using DNS since about version 8 and it just goes from strength to strength. I dictate at conversation speed with well over 99% accuracy.

* however, with DNS you have to go back and proof read your text to make sure that it hasn't transcribed any wrong words, which basically makes up for the time savings from dictation. You don't really have to do this with typing (because you know what you wrote) although in situations where accuracy is a real issue (eg. getting paid for copy) then you still have to proofread, which means that with typing you're still going to be slower.

* however the big advantage of Dragon is that you never have spelling mistakes or typos. Dragon might occasionally pick the wrong word, which is easy to spot, but it will never spell a word wrong by missing a letter or transcribing two letters etc which are much more difficult to eyeball - this is a HUGE time saver when it comes to proof reading.

* you have to really learn how to dictate with DNS - you're using a different part of your brain when you dictate as compared to when you type. It's a non trivial skill and it takes time to learn, and until you learn to dictate (not necessarily to use the features of Dragon, but the skill of dictating quickly without thinking about it) then you will be slower dictating than typing.

* it saves your hands from RSI / OOS! This is the big one and the real reason to use Dragon rather than typing. You will fuck your hands in no time at all if you try to do high volumes of typing.

Source: My experience comes from being paid 6 figures to write over 2 million words of copy in a high pressure environment where mistakes are not acceptable. If I had written 2 million words by typing, my hands would be permanently fucked!

I tried DNS - Didn't quite get the hang of it. I think it has to do with my accent. It is a mix of British and American accent and DNS really goes crazy sometimes. I still prefer typing, with or without my eyes closed.
