CPV Lab Warning

Hey Guys,

Just received an email from a list I subscribe to (AffPlayBook) warning me of CPV Lab and an upgrade email asking to fork out $99 to continue using the service by upgrading to something called CPV Lab Pro.

Apparently, a lot is going on - a former employee is sending out these emails and is taking the licensing server offline. The owner is missing.

Below is the text of the entire email -

That same email says you won't be able to log into CPV Lab and get your stats if you don't pay it.

They are potentially taking down the licensing sever (which gets checked every time to log into CPV Lab to confirm you have an active license) so you can't log into your install.

I've been told the creator and owner of CPV Lab has been missing for a while, so nobody knows exactly what is going on yet.

Please do not give any money to CPV Lab Pro. Also do not buy the actual CPV Lab either until we get the whole story.

I got about same information from beyondhosting today. Man that sucks! All the campaings and data! How can it be that Robert is missed for 2 month! Hope that gets fixed. So far I didnt get the email asking for the money.

My name is Radu and I am the lead of the development team of CPV Lab. I am writing you to give you some news about CPV Lab and its future.

As you may have noticed, lately there have been issues with the support tickets and troubles when accessing the CPV Lab instances. A few months ago the 2 partners that launched CPV Lab back in 2010 decided to take different paths. The cpvlab.com domain and the server remained with one partner, while my company and the entire development team decided to continue with the development of new features and new versions under the new name.

Since you are a top user, I want to share some very good news and some not-so-good news.

The not-so-good news are that the current server that allows access to the current CPV Lab instances is reaching its limits and it's just a matter of days or weeks until it will crash completely and nobody will be able to use the application. Unfortunately we don't have access anymore to that server and we are unable to make the required optimizations. And as it seems nobody has the knowledge and the willingness to make the required optimizations on that server, we predict that the moment when the server will crash is very near.

The very good news is that CPV Lab is going forward!
Me and my team will continue to develop and support CPV Lab. We are very excited about this since this project is like a child to us, we wrote every line of code from it. We already setup a new powerful server that will be able to handle all users and logins. We plan on releasing a new version in the coming months which will bring some much expected features:
- support for PHP7
- native support for HTTPS and option to quickly install a SSL certificate; option to use even a free SSL certificate
- ability to Update Exact CPC/CPV Per Keyword/Target or Ad
- options to comply with the new GDPR laws for protection and privacy and tools for the GDPR requirements
- allow new tokens to be passed to Landing Pages and Offer Pages in order to offer more customizations: browser name, browser version, operating system name, operating system version, visitor country etc
- and much more

We highly recommend switching now in order to avoid being stuck without access to your Stats and Reports from your CPV Lab instance. Once the old server will crash you will not be able to login and the following message will be displayed: "The application requires an active Internet connection".

If you decide to switch today to the new server used by CPV Lab Pro, we can offer you:
- modified files with custom changes for your domain(s) and version(s)
- free upgrade to the new CPV Lab Pro version that will be released in the following months
- 6 months of support in the new dedicated Help Desk

Creating the modified files requires custom work for each instance and for each domain. We can offer all the above for $99 per domain. Payment can be done via PayPal or credit card and you will receive the modified files in 24 hours. We are sorry for this extra fee but there is a lot of work involved for the development team in switching each instance to the new server.

The email in question is not from me, it was received from another source since I subscribe to their list. The original email included an affiliate link to a particular tracker. However, I didn't want to mention the name of the tracker here, or else, a good amount of readers could potentially think that I am the one who's making the recommendation.

The word [Redacted] here is essentially put in place to show that the particular name has been censored/removed. It is not a brand name, just a word that means "censored" so as to show the reader that the particular piece of text contained some information, which was removed before publishing.

There are several trackers available in the market - from pretty basic ones to highly advanced ones - depending on your usage. Tell me some numbers that you run - traffic/leads/sources and I can help you with some information. However, I'll refrain from making any recommendations here.

I know this must be frustrating to you guys. I'm a CPV lab 3.0 user myself and I have been locked out of my own tracker. Geez!

Some say that the guy is charging $99 to migrate. If he really scamming then we can hit back coz I've managed to cracked it!

If you're desperate for a solution. PM me. The solution is very simple. No more license check ever!

It is bad news! I cannot log into my CPVLab as well...

I opened a support ticket in Beyondhosting, where I host my CPV Lab 3.01. They replied straight away (as they use to do), telling me they know the issue and working on a patch to solve the license check problem.

This is the message they sent me:




I asked them if they have any ETA for this license patch. If I get any further update, I will post it here.

Besides Beyondhosting response (see my previous post), I also contacted that "CPV Lab Pro" as I was a potential new customer. Just out of curiosity. I asked them which features make a difference between CPV Lab 3.01 and CPV Lab Pro. This is what they replied:

Hi @bhas888. It seems only users who have 50 posts or more can PM (here they call it 'start converstions'). Could you please share your solution?

Currently CPV Lab Pro is quite the same as CPV Lab 3.01, but using the new licensing server that doesn't have those issues.​

The point is... I didn't tell them I had log-in issues at all beforehand. This is what they replied:

Users running the old CPV Lab application, the one which we are not associated with, reported having login issues in their instances caused by struggles in the licensing server.

In CPV Lab Pro we use a new licensing server that is optimized periodically in order to avoid such issues. This is the main improvement currently and we are working hard on the next version from July 2018.​

With a list of new features it's supposed they are working on.

Anyone tried bhas888 file? Is it safe to use?

Didn't receive any email, but it seems like that guy really did shut down the licensing server as I can't login to my CPV Lab.

Funny thing is, the other day I was actually asking myself wether I should upgrade to another tracker as CPV Lab just doesn't seem to be maintained anymore.

We don't know the real context of the situation and the relationship between the owner and the developers though. It could be that Robert is just not making CPV Lab a priority anymore and the other developers have just had enough of that. As a result they have decided to create their own licensing server and take control.

Doesn't seem like a scam to me, as Radu's reply in post #6 seems pretty straightforward and honest and I am in fact getting the ""The application requires an active Internet connection"" error when trying to login.

Nonethless, the mess is probably a sign that it is time to upgrade to another tracker. Don't have time to deal with this bullshit battle for the licensing server.

@bhas888 Thanks very much for the decoded login.php file, It works! I'm back in to CPVLab.
