Running a Google Ads campaign steady for 2 weeks, everything was smooth. CPC was around $0.40–$0.50, then out of nowhere it jumped to $1.20+ overnight. Same keywords, same targeting, no big changes on my end.

I checked competitors in the auction insights, and it looks like a few new players entered. Could that alone cause CPC to triple so fast? Or is Google just cranking up bids when they see consistent clicks?

Feels weird because ROI dropped instantly and my budget burns way quicker. Should I pause and re-optimize or just ride it out until things settle?

Check if auto-bidding is messing with you. Manual CPC helps keep costs under control when algo goes wild.

You should elaborate on your niche and the other metrics

Some blackhat users of Google Ads may have entered your "scene" and hence a blow up on CPCs. Nasty blackhat users of Google Ads use all kinds of strategies to "afford" high CPCs for cheap (such as invoice accounts, etc) and once they bid high, those keywords CPCs start hitting the roof.

A sudden increase in CPC means that competition has increased. Therefore, consider changing your keyword types or using conversion tracking to identify the keywords that can generate leads for you.
