I am paying like $1.00 per click on an ad I wrote but my traffic is targeted....

I have it set to Tier 1 countries only, females between the ages of 35-55 and I have interest set at running, jogging, outdoor activities and working out.

How can this target be so expensive?

I am pretty much new to Facebook ads so I was just wondering if I was doing anything wrong?

With a pretty similar audience I`m having 0,25 cents CPC so yes its most likely a problem with your ads settings or ads used.

That is quite expensive, depends on what objective setting you are using, how good your list/target actually is, how good your relevancy score is, landing page, lots of factors, PM me if you want me to review it.

Overtime your CPC will decrease. I remember I was paying .90 per click and after a week or so, it dropped down to $.25-$.50 a click.

It also helps if you have a super high CTR. So split test multiple images.

This is probably an obvious question, but I am new to Facebook ads, does quality score help lower click price? If so is there any way of measuring quality score?

Quality score will help with lower click prices. It's mainly measured by the postive vs negative feedback from your target audience. If you want cheaper clicks, do better targeting and write better ads, simple as that.

What kind of CTR do your ads have? You're targeting a pretty sought-after demographic but $1 cpc is too high. For US female traffic in that age range I would expect cpc's aroud .20 to .40 (assuming a ctr of at least 5-6%)

Your ads have interaction when run it will be cheaper, target, pull the traffic position ... I can run ads for $ 0.003 / PPC
