cpanel forwarding vs. 301 redirect vs. meta refresh

Whats the difference between 'forwarding to specific url' via cPanel vs. 301 redirect vs meta-refresh - when it comes to SERP?

I always use 301 known as a permanent redirect if you are going to permanently redirect that domain name to a specific URL. Cpanel redirect might just modify you .hatccess and actually do a 301 also. never really used meta refresh.
