I was going to suggest that but considering that he's more than likely just starting off. It'd probably be easier for him to join a network than for him to do it himself.

You don't have to lock only (text) content, you can lock whatever you want. And PPC is something different of course.
Yes sure. But what I want to you is whether people are more comfortable with the idea that the content is in a website than having to download the thing (they might think it's a virus or something)

If you give people something they truly want, then they will go through an offer just for the hope of finding what they are looking for. I remember looking for a college textbook online and probably went through 5 surveys before I found it on some no name torrent site.
CPA takes a little more time to setup, but you can make more money. There is some risk since some networks have been known to be ban-happy.

That's what I'm talking about. So why CPA is better in your opinion?
They both pay the same. Both almost have the same offers.
I'm only talking about this from a conversion point of view... which one would attract people to complete a certain action?

conversion totally depends on the offer, it doesn't matter whether u're using PPD or CPA. Most(almost all) of the PPD sites use CPA offers, but then they're more liberal and don't ban people too fast. On the other hand, CPA networks will ban you pretty fast if they find something fishy. So, my suggestion - go with PPD in the beginning. You'll learn a lot of things and will gain some experience. After that start using CPA network for locking your content or whatever you want 
dude, cpa includes cpd/ppd. so it's not about which one is better, but what you are promoting. offers that are doing with ppd could belong to cpa as well, cost per action/conversion. there are a lot of other conversions types in cpa such as cpi, submit forms, and etc.
