Historically any incumbent President dealing with a recession has lost. Reps want this to go away as fast as possible. Dems want the fear to persist as long as possible. Plenty of other factors, but they're two big ones at this point.

I live in Vietnam. We have no death and only 258 cases currently even though we are under China. You know why? Our government reactions really fast since the outbreak.
Now we are forced to stay home, all public places are closed including schools, cinemas, parks, stadiums..., almost all flights are stopped. Yes, no death and only 258 cases.

The numbers can be manipulated very easily in several ways. For example:
- not testing anymore
- giving the people a different diagnosis
- just faking the numbers
- deciding who actually gets tested
Let me give you guys an example. You have a very slight coughing, you are contacting your local hospital and they are telling you to stay home for 14 days. No test done = no tested positive.
And let us not forget the most important fact. According to some scientists in Germany 4/5 people won't even show symptoms. Not everyone who is infected will show symptoms, even if they are carrying the virus. Another example here: You sit in an airplane, train or bus with a sick person right next to you. The person might he cough or sneeze at you and you will definitely get in touch with the virus/bacterias. Will you know become sick as well and show the same symptoms? No, but it is possible.
Every persons immune system is different. There are so many factors playing into it: Lifestyle, nutrition, chronic diseases, stress level, environment etc.
And the people who say: "Oh Vietnam has just a few cases" - okay, look at the average income in Vietnam. Check how modern are their hospitals. How many people have been tested? I don't see how the average vietnamese person has been tested for the virus. Its unlike Korea, US or Germany. Same goes to Thailand by the way. They keep updating the numbers of infected people every single day, but how many got tested? They add 50+ people to the list every day, but if they would test 10x more people they would probably find 500 infected people per day.
