Hey team! A client has been hit with a pretty aggressive negative SEO campaign, resulting in quite a lot of defamatory content. There are articles across multiple websites, which seemingly have good links pointing to them and resulting in some issues for the owners.

What's the best way to handle this type of thing, just go through google's takedown process? The content is incorrect (as in, legally incorrect) but I don't have much experience of it. Thanks!

If you are facing that situation gather proof, ask site owners to remove it, think about legal steps, use Google's process to remove it from search results, and manage your client's online opinion. Stay aware and Keep an eye out for any new attacks and act accordingly.

If its urgent (I understand Yes), select couple good quality publications sites and publish Good Content about your client/ services etc to push down those negative info from Google. Later on, you can talk to editors, requesting to remove those negative/ wrong info from their websites.

You need document the defamatory content and disavow the links that you too spammy. You build good quality backlinks and very reputable PR links to compensate the impact the spam links did to your websites.

If there's mean and untrue stuff about your client online, tell Google to take it down, and if it's really bad, think about talking to a lawyer to fix the problem.

Report the negative content to Google for removal and consider seeking legal advice to address the false information effectively.

sounds like a tough spot for your client, but there are some things you could do
  • Set up alerts (like Google Alerts) to monitor new mentions or bad content popping up if the negative SEO is ongoing.
  • Use Google's process to ask for the removal of the neg SEO from search results if you can
  • Sometimes a direct request to the site hosting the bad content can work. Explain why it should be taken down.
  • Combat the negative SEO with good ORM and put positive articles out there. Then you can push down the bad stuff in search results.
Hope this helps! Good luck.

If contacting the website owners directly doesn't yield results, you can use disavow tools to removal of spammy Links. submitting legal removal requests through Google Legal Removal Requests page. Build a High Authority Niche Relevent Backlinks .Monitor Progress of your website .

You can buy guest posts to counter that narrative and promote them through social media to prove that your client isn't doing anything bad.

Find those links and then report them to Google asking for them to be removed
