Could we update "/help/terms"?

Hi all,

I was wondering if it might be of benefit to the forum if we were to update the terms to include some of the offshoot rules that directly relate to a particular section of the forum.

I realise these rules are already included as a sticky at the top of the sections, which is the best place for them, as they should actually be read there. However I think it would be good to also include them in the full T&C's.

Just really to help with continuity.

A potential problem may be that you will have to inform the old users of updated T&C's which may be burdensome.

If it's a case of not having the resources to accomplish this - I would be happy to update them slowly in the evenings and weekends.

I imagine it would be more of a burden than a benefit if the staff had to remember to update multiple instances of each set of rules, instead of just updating a single, relevant thread when needed.

Not to mention the massive effort it would take to actually add the ~90 sections to the T&C's and I doubt they will let an outsider, such as yourself, update a document as sensitive as T&C's.

Point taken, to clarify - I wouldn't do anything with the assumption that it would be used. I would assume they would have a legal team to look over things as sensitive as the T&C's before they went live.

So if you do it and then someone has to check what you have done, surely it would be easier just to get them to do it in the first place

There is a good post from @Zwielicht about this -

I think it’s probably on the list of tasks somewhere but I imagine it would be a pretty complex job - firstly I think the terms and conditions are probably more of a legal overview on what is and isn’t allowed, what’s expected of both parties and so on. Whereas the sticky rules in each forum are more of a practical guide and perhaps more expansive.

Maybe the TOS would be a bit bulky if all those stickies were included in them. Also maybe the absense of sticky rules in each sub-forum would cause its own issues. Having the rules in both places would make twice the work when it came to updating them, so maybe some way of linking the TOS with the sticky rules would be ideal, but that’s probably even more of a complex task.

Thanks everybody,

Everything you're saying makes sense. I think it just Irk's me that there is no definitive list of numbered rules.

In all honesty I had forgotten about @Zwielicht 's post, which looks as though it's still being updated

and is very useful for the more abstract rules where I'm thinking "I'm sure there is a rule somewhere about this" but I just can't lay my finger on it. So thanks for that @davids355

As for keeping the TOS page updated, could we not update the Terms page with links to the Sticky's, just to ensure BHW is covered?

The reason it irks me is that if I am trying to report something, I will often quote the rule number and rule numbers only exist on the TOS page. So when something is not on there - it confuses my tiny one track brain.

I might just create a word document with all of the rules on, that I number myself - lol.

Thank you
